·Here's my bookends, Sammy (on the left) and Chandler (on the right). This pic was taken about 3 years ago, Chandler passed away at age 18 about two years ago. I really miss that cat, he was one in a billion. Sammy is still with us at age 19, he's blind, (from hypertension), has bad arthritis, and we give him daily sub-Q fluids to help his struggling kidneys. He's slowed down with his aliments and age, but he's hanging in there. He's not suffering and loves to curl up on our laps. When he was younger he was always in hyper drive--turns out he had a hyper active thyroid that was keeping him going. We treated that with radiation and now his thyroid is fine. He's a big cat and was king of the roost in the neighborhood, and despite being de-clawed he could send his fully-clawed playmates running. Sammy will be our last cat (for a while) he's the last of 12 that preceded him, and we've had one live to 25, one to 21, with most hanging in there for 18 years.
