Thanks, I really don’t know, nor does my vet, what is keeping superdooper going. She was diagnosed with some type of cancer at 17, went deaf at 18, I’m pretty sure she is 90% blind but she can out figures she just doesn’t know who is who. She has this damn cold thing, probably feline herpes, I keep treating her with anti biotics but it keeps coming back. I hook her up to an IV 4-6 times a week, she looks like a reck tbh I brush her and stuff but she just ain’t feeling any self grooming these days. I had to put her “brother” down at 14 years old he was a big healthy cat that got a tumor and went from a very happy health overweight cat to no longer being with us in about 3.5 weeks. I am baffled by sooper dooper I’m not complaining of course but technically, and this is the vets words no mine, “this cat should not be alive, I gave her six months to live 7 years ago.”

This was our big guy......brother to the little lady I posted above. At his best he was a solid (not over padded!) 18 pounds.

He hunted (and brought us) all sorts of things in the green space behind our house, including most recently an adult magpie. Sorry no pics of that one. He started to be a bit lethargic do some coughing in March and was diagnosed with a lung cancer on April 1. We started him on some steroids and he perked up and was doing well until he started dropping weight at the end of the month and within a week it was clear that we needed to put him down. This was one of our hardest days ever....holding him and feeling his life slip away. Things are still not great and everyone left behind is still out of sorts at two months without him.

Sorry to be so maudlin, but still pretty raw and missing him. The posts in this thread though are very helpful, especially those from @Omegafanman

Sorry for your loss. Ours had a brother and we lost him at 10 which was very tough. Looks like your guy had an amazing life with you and you brought out the best in him / cared for him until the end, which is all we can do. Wonderful looking cat and full of personality from your pictures.

I’m sorry for your loss. My wife and I lost our girl Amelia in 2018 and we are still incredibly raw over it. Every day we miss her and find ourselves often giggling over her fun memories. In the span of a couple weeks Amelia had gone from her fun loving energetic healthy self of 80lbs to absolutely nothing and wanting to sleep non stop. I don’t believe she was ever in any pain. At least not anything she ever let show. Her aggressive cancer just took over. she had just turned 6. My wife and I adopted her from an elderly woman that used her for emotional support, since a pup. My wife and I were fortunate to experience her (Amelia) love for 3 years. The first picture was taken when she was healthy. She was my model for testing out film cameras I had acquired. The second picture was taken during her (unknown to us) last week. We had just left the vet and the smile was because we had a hint of good news.

Miss my girl. Not trying to be sad. I greatly enjoy this thread because it fills my heart with joy.

Neo is really enjoying his time in the Alps, and handling the daily hikes quite well, so far 😀

We had a couple of days of on and off rain, but we managed to go out walking every day. And when needed, Neo was very patient to stay in the tent, relaxing. He is being really a nice company... My better half too btw!

by the size of that bone, there must be a serious dinosaur infestation

My wife and I adopted our Winnifred. She was on death row and set to be euthanized the following day. She was a police rescue from an abusive owner that never fed her and kept her in a cage way too small for her size. These photos are from day one. She looks ripped in the second pic… she was severely underweight from neglect.

She is so incredibly loving and patient. Loves playing with all animals, sharing her toys, letting them climb all over her, and cuddling with them. Pics from visiting the in-laws

She just doesn’t realize how big she is. She claimed this bed, which belonged to a 10 pound dog. She’s a healthy 80lbs

She just doesn’t have any patience for helping me test film cameras, but that’s okay 😀

Really cool. Beautiful face. Great story. How the hec fo people intentionally inflict harm on an animal I will never understand although my cat sooper experienced some of that which is why I ended up with her. It seems kinda simple if you don’t like dogs or cats or what have you don’t get one.

https://www.almanac.com/cat-age-chart-cat-years-human-years

Ok so I got curious with soopers recent 24th birthday on the cat to human years thing. Apparently she is 112 in human years. I don’t know how reliable of a comparison that is though because there are documented cases of 36 year old domestic cats. Or maybe it was 34 but it was a surprising number. Do we have any members who are vets? I’d like to know if these scales are accurate. I’m pretty sure my German Shepard lived to 13 or 14. She was actually a friend of soopers. Darn I think sooper has outlived at least three other pets I’ve had. Now I gotta post a dog to human year thing, I’ll be right back.

Ok see these are divided up into dog size which vets have told me in the past the larger the dog the shorter the life span but like everything else there are always exceptions. Breed can play a factor in that as well. My Shepard was a purebred and I think that is one thing that can lead to shortened life spans but I’m just going by various things vets have told me it’s not like I know what I’m talking about but if I limited my conversations to things I actually knew about I would only be writing like one or two word posts.

Thanks and I won’t say I know how you are feeling now as we all process things differently but when my buddy Baxter died 24 January it was a tough time for a while. A feral cat has a very short lifespan 3-7 years is common. We give these animals a nice comfortable life and remove so many of the struggles they would have in the wild. Baxter was a fighter to the end it’s been six months so that deep sadness has passed but I think of him often, and darn I have so many pictures of him on my phone he used to be a regular in this thread

Sorry for your lost, and no need to apologise. Our pet friends are integral part of the family life. Losing them leaves an great emptiness but all so many great memories too.

We planted a tree (dogwood ironically) in remembrance of our 21 old cat. The kids still have awesome memories of Matilda.
