A wee question I hope someone may be able to answer ?

My old pal as some of you know is heading for his fifteenth birthday and although he has gone through several major health problems he is now as fit and healthy as he can be given his age.
Deafness does not seem to bother him but over the past few days he has just not want to be left even with his wee buddy, if we leave the room for just a minute or too he will start to bark and even that is more of a squeal.
I am assuming it is just a possesive issue of some sort but has anyone else come across this issue ?
This is a complex issue. He may be having trouble with his eyesight. He may also be “sundowning” which is a loss of cognitive ability. You may want to speak to your vet about some anti anxiety medication. My Banzai (Avatar) had the same issues. Woke up howling at 3 am. Meds helped. He passed at 16. Its so dammed hard caring for them through this phase. My thoughts are with you.

We have a new routine now once a day - I think with age a few aches and pains have crept in for the old boy (a bit like me), so now he has a massage once a day. He was not a big fan at first (we started after he had a limp / hurt his front left leg). It seemed to help his recovery and now he instigates a rub down once a day (he still has normal fusses and a regular brushing) - this is different and seems to help his old muscles.

My thought for today on dogs.

Dogs are a gift to us that we are not really entitled to, but they join us anyway. I have had the good fortune to have bred, trained and worked dogs all my life, had a couple of duds along the way, but mostly, they have been winners. They go hard all day in the paddock, get kicked in the yards every now and then, get kibble for food tor the occasional bunny if I have my WW Greener with me, turn out in all sorts of weather, never complain and when it is time to retire, they look at you with a look that says, "hey boss, why aren't I going today.

I have never met a dog that was not better than most people.

Eddie’s recuperating after a sneak attack from a Staffie that snuck up on him and clamped onto his neck. Good job I was the one walking him as if Sarah and the kids were walking him they wouldn’t have had a chance of getting the horrible thing off him. Now in his rightful place in front of the fire.

is this the SOB Staffie?

Wanna make sure I get the right house.

Out of interest, is the asshole owner of the Staffie taking care of poor Eddies bills?

Very sorry to hear about Eddie and wishing him the best for a speedy recovery. My guess is that he's a tough customer and will be back to his normal self very quickly.

Hopefully the offending dog will be dealt with by the proper authorities. I have little tolerance for aggressive dogs and their owners...

Glad Chunky made it okay, and hope he has a full recovery.

Was that dammed thing loose? I’m all about kindness towards pitties but too many of their owners are assholes.

If @chunkythebulldog is in the UK, a Staffie might refer to a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, which is not quite the same as a Pit Bull or American Staffordshire Bull Terrier (AmStaff). Staffies are significantly smaller and lower to the ground. Quite a different breed IIRC.

I hope Eddie recovers quickly and that the owner of the other dog is a responsible party, at least paying the medical bills. This kind of thing strikes a chord for me personally having been bitten by a dog whose owner did not see fit to keep the rabies vaccination up to date and upon learning of the mandated quarantine period (and possible required euthanasia) turned the whole affair into some kind of veiled threat against me. Eddie's looking pretty relaxed in front of that fire - best wishes to him.

I'm hoping the offending owner will be dealt with, otherwise two dogs will have suffered from that wretched human. Meantime, best to Eddie. Glad he has such a pal.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

Eddie's doing okay. Luckily the bite didn't puncture any of the muscle underneath and is more of a flesh wound, albeit a nasty one that I thought the vet would have stitched up but he seemed quite happy to give him a course of anti-biotics and anti-inflamatories for 10 days and to leave the bite to heal naturally.

I've never seen the offending dog / owner before or since. The attack happened last Thursday at about 5:15am in the morning. Me and Eddie were doing our usual walk along a snicket (path) and where it joined another snicket the Staffie was walking up that one so it caught all 4 of us by surprise. With the dog deciding to take a chunk out of Eddie's neck. It was on the lead and the owner was apologetic but surely needs to be muzzled. As it was pitch black I didn't know how bad it was until we got home.

Eddie's been walking since and met plenty of dogs and hasn't shown any aggressive tendencies so all's good in that respect.

A Staffie in the UK is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, similar in appearance to a Pit Bull but smaller in build. Like Pit Bulls they seem to attract a specific type of owner.
