We geez this is one of my favorite threads and I really don鈥檛 want make it a bummer so forgive me. This is the last picture of Baxter I will post here. His trip to the vet didn鈥檛 go to well they found a tumor growing in his chest pinching off his esophagus preventing him from eating. This happened so quickly it really took me by surprise. I had hope cortisone would help but I鈥檝e been giving it to him the past couple days and he can鈥檛 seem to keep that down. Three weeks ago we were playfighting, Baxter has been a good buddy for 12 years perhaps something will happen with this med but the vet told me not to get my hopes up. I鈥檒l probably bring him back within the next 5-7 days make the final decision, always sad to see one of our old friends go.

Good luck, Baxter and hang in there, Walrus. Terrible when these things come to pass. I have lived it with my own pets and dread the day it will come again. This is a hard decision to make.....I have decided to stop their pain and I have avoided the obvious until nature took it's course. Both suck. My thoughts are with you both.

Oh no.. so sorry to read this, and even harder when you're not expecting it!

Courage to you and your family. Enjoy him as much as you can, and hopefully he won't suffer too much.

Thank you very much. And thanks for all the well wishes and pm鈥檚. Like most here I have been an animal lover all my life and have had to put down a few over the years. I still remember getting Baxter, I went to a local pet shop to get catnip for my other cat and someone was out front desperately trying to give away kittens. So I came home with catnip and a kitten. I must say my wife wasn鈥檛 too pleased at the time but Baxter eventually grew on her. So yeah I got home from work this eve and loaded him up with steroids. He at least tried to eat, couldn鈥檛 do it, but maybe this is a sign that meds will do something. I think what screwed me up the most with this is my cat super dooper had one of these tumors but is now 22 or 23. The vet is saying we won鈥檛 have that luck with Baxter.

Another thing that bummed me out with this is it cost me 600 bucks with the exam, sonogram and X-rays to find out I鈥檒l need to spend whatever it is now to put him down. It鈥檚 not the fact I had to spend the money but all the clients I have with animals that will require care. No way they can swing that. Oh well too much to think about now I hope all your animals are healthy and have many years to come. Things will be fine with Baxter I鈥檒l do all I can, watch him closely and won鈥檛 let him suffer. I can give him an IV to hydrate him which I have to do for sooper doop. In the end I鈥檓 glad I was able to spoil him for 12 years and he brought me a lot of laughter as he was a complete spaz for 6-7 years until he started to get that old cat mellow out. Right now I鈥檓 looking at him and he is cleaning his paws, my wife is bringing home a liquid type cat food that hopefully he can get down but I can tell you he lived like a king right up till this happened a couple weeks back so as long as I play this right and don鈥檛 let him suffer I will consider Baxter to have had a successful cat life and I鈥檓 glad I was able to contribute. Thanks again, thanks for letting me babble on it鈥檚 a little sad I just need to fine tune my assessment of the situation. We all have an end, no getting around that one.

Not much room on the couch.

My wife often ends up sitting on the floor when our two Whippets take over the chesterfield...

Saw this a while back and thought it was funny too...
