I took this today. Next door have chickens, 2x cats and a dog….. so, on his am patrol he likes to look imposing in the early morning sunshine, showing everyone who is boss (alongside frantic claw marking on my bloody fence)… but clearly keeping up appearances is exhausting work :0)

So one of our dogs, Remi the older one, has Cushing's disease. He has been on medication for this for a couple of years now, and he's gone downhill pretty fast recently. He was not eating well, and was so weak at times that I had to help him stand up if he was laying down, so it wasn't looking good.

My wife took him to the vet and it turned out he was having a bout of Pancreatitis, so he went on some meds for that, and they also suggested we change his dog food. Two options were given, and one was vegetarian, and that turned out to be the only one we could get quickly. So we put him on that, and the change has been dramatic. He was getting very grey and looking old, but his hair is growing back in darker. He is eating well, can get up on his own fine, and has actually become playful again, something he hasn't been since this all started a couple of years ago.

His snout was almost completely white a month ago...now dark hair growing back in...

No doubt calming down the Pancreatitis made him feel better, but now we are wondering if there's been something in the various foods we have been giving him that he's been allergic to. Had him back for a test of cortisol levels to check to make sure the medication for the Cushing's is working, and the levels have dropped dramatically, so we are now cutting back on that medication. The vet does think that there may be some allergic reaction involved, so we'll keep him on this food, and hopefully he will be able to get off these other meds completely at some point. We were really wondering if we were going to have to put him down it was that bad, and he's done a complete 180...so some good news for us, and him!

Brilliant! Thanks... Might get one delivered to Belgium before the borders are closed and the mess starts!
PS: on the practical side, how would you wash this? I didn't read if it was washing machine safe on the website. Neo looses his fur quite a bit, and leave small pointy hair. I regularly wash his things, so it smell all nicely too at home 😀

Great to read the old boy is doing better, and has made a phenomenal turnaround!
Dog allergies are tricky to detect I believe... Neo, our boxer, has always had a delicate stomach (ie if he doesn't tolerate something, we enjoy a day or two of diarrhea...) as well as itching on his belly (sometimes with only a touch, not even petting him). We tried different dog foods, known brands, special allergy bones you get a vets etc... Without much success.

At the end, we change to raw food that I prepare him twice a day, consisting of cooked rice/sweet potatoes/potatoes, boiled courgettes and/or carrots, some apple, Colza oil (big spoon) for his fur, and chicken breast (200gr/serving) and one chicken wings... Sometimes, he gets salmon, but rarely.

Before this, he sometimes didn't touch his food and could go a day without eating... Now, he almost cry and gets impatient when I'm getting ready! It is a pleasure to see him enjoying it, and being eager to eat.

Good luck with Remi, and hope he continues enjoying his many more years 😀

They have things under control. At this point it’s their house, they kindly allow me to live here lol.

Thanks - we have seriously considered going raw, as a few friends we know have done it with good results. The only thing that bothers me is the potential for a bacterial infection of some kind from raw food. Maeve our younger dog could probably handle it, but Remi would not likely do very well with such a thing.

I took the vacuum cleaner to it on the return today and it came up great, i'll ask my girls regarding washing.

Borders and mess I have to agree 100%
