It's leaf season here in beautiful New Jersey, and I have a couple acres of them to relocate from the yard to curbside on the street where the town will pick them up. I put large piles of the leaves onto a big blue plastic tarp and drag them out to the street. Fergus, our pit bull mix, enjoys nothing more than jumping onto the tarp and going for a ride, but only when I am not looking. As soon as I turn my back on him the tarp becomes eighty-five pounds heavier. Otherwise he pretends to be playing with his ball. I swear the dog smiles.

Did you give the would be thief the toast for the effort?

We make an effort not to reinforce bad behaviour, so no he didn't get the toast...

I was looking for a beer in the back of the fridge tonight and pulled out a jar of pickles. When I set them down on the floor (looking on the bottom shelf) he promptly started licking the pickle jar. Cheeky boy!

It's been about six weeks since we got Missy. We are making progress as she no longer flinches when we touch her, and she's beginning to respond to being stroked gently.

My dog is small but brave, he always barks back to big dogs who bark first.

He is always happy and cheerful. Even when I had a terrible day and I don鈥檛 have too much time for him.

Is always around. Never invasive. But he understands when I need him to be close.

My dog is definitely an inspiration to me.

Nine and a half weeks now and seeing snow for the first time in her life. Not a fan of the white stuff apparently.

Beautiful post! Mans best friend: a rightly earned title.

The skiddish one, Safari, has seemed to pick me to warm up to. She now lives in my den while I am in there and will lay on my lap as long as I will stay still. The last couple of weeks, I have had to move her whenever I can't stay still anymore. And she is a talker too. She will chirp up a storm as long as you keep talking back to her.....or is that vice versa? ;-)
