Sorry for not making myself a bit more clear. "?" = Why did you post this?.
Don't get me wrong, it is a nice image of a nice watch, just don't understand the added value to this thread. Please elaborate, thanks.

Any ideas where I can find a 145.012 or 105.012 in ok condition? I've been hunting for a year now for a head only and can't find anything nice in the $7000-8000 price range 🙁

Give up. There is absolutely zero special about them. A Speedmaster is a Speedmaster. The only thing about the old ones is that they are old and a bunch of crazy people want to give tens of thousands of dollars for essentially nothing.

Now that I've said this, there will be a dozen replies that will excoriate me. That's fine, I don't care.

You want a nice chrono, look for one branded "Lemania", because that's where the Speedmaster came from.

Pay up, lower your standards, or start combing thrift stores and estate sales. Plenty of nice 145.012 and 105.012 examples come up frequently on eBay and in the classified sections on OF. However, you have to be willing to pay fair market value. The budget you mentioned will get you a nice 145.022-69, but for the two references you mention, anything less than $8k is likely to have some significant flaws. Either pay up, or just cross your fingers and hope that prices drop in the future.
