So I see that the only "big" thing about this announcement is the price tag.

I love the Type 1B and am now on the hunt for one. Don't care for this LE much, but it's sold out already anyway, so it doesn't really matter.

Type 1B

I'm drawn in by this one as well man... so cool... so beyond my budget.

I've heard that it will have the Wright Brothers Pubic hair in tiny capsules attached to the minute and hour hands.

...with a DON bezel naturally...

But alas, non of the above...redinkulous!

I think it shows a degree of design / manufacturing effort not seen in any of the previous Hodinkee LE editions, which I believe deserves some praise.

I have to say I would be very surprised if all this effort is limited down the road just to this one 20 piece LE collaboration with the 'Dink. Similar to the Zenith, I think something similar to the LE will be released by Ressence during the next 12 months.

I think Hodinkee is proposing the following strategy to the brands...create an LE with us and we will help you with the design of the product, give you feedback, you will get your marketing for "free" during the launch + get some $$ back for your R&D team...an agile approach which seems faster than the traditional 12 month Basel / SIHH cycle.

I found a couple on the used market for $12k, not that that is affordable but it is better than $20k MSRP

I'm with you on that being better value than MSRP - it's still 3-4 times more than I've ever spent on a watch 馃榿

Its cool... However I can think of better uses for 26K

Yep.... And the cutaways are kinda random aren't they?
I'm not the customer for this watch either but I can see the appeal to the hip and affluent.

I really don't get all the comments about price just because someone wouldn't spend what they're asking for these LE's or doesn't have the money. The watches are selling like hotcakes.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Nice looking watch, this one's not for me but I find it attractive. I'm still confused why there is so much criticism of these. They've put out 4 watches ranging from $2,500 to $45,000, usually in small batches, which makes them special (and easy to get if you are paying attention and ready to pull the trigger). They certainly like all-grey steel watches.

I agree - the criticism HODINKEE seems to receive for these limited releases is unwarranted. Note that each release has sold out almost immediately and you never see them pop up on the resale market, so it seems to me as though those who bought them have been satisfied with their purchase.

Core themes of their releases so far seem to be steel and smaller case sizes - both features that I'm a fan of.

Nothing wrong with spending 3-4 times more (maybe not today), but maybe just not on this watch.

Mmmm, nice second-hand Lange, 2998, or a386 馃榾

With you on that Steve... it's on the long list (not the Hodinkee model) of watches that I think are cool, but have no need to own myself.

I'm referring to the original, oil-filled Ressence, by the way :-p
