This is absolute tone-deaf hubris.

It's shocking how they pompously pander to, then insult the intelligence of their target audience of the well-to-do trendy.
$5900? "Balls the size of church bells" comes to mind.

I found their article about a new Norqain watch interesting last week.

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/n...-first-with-kenissi-caliber-nn201-introducing

It's a pretty rosy piece covering a new watch. The watch is honestly pretty mundane or uninteresting, but of course it shows up in their shop a few days later.

They finally stuck a note or disclaimer to the end of the article, but that wasn't added until after the watch was listed on the site for a few days.

The disclaimer is a step in the right direction, but I think it would be more useful before any article that covers a watch of any brand they carry. The fact that it came after the watch was added to their shop and at the very end of a couple thousand word article seems like they're not interested in being forthcoming.

Of course they're not. They're legally required to add that boilerplate though as the whole "influencer" marketing scheme has taken off

this has been a huge PR boom for them- negative or positive doesn鈥檛 matter, it鈥檚 free press. If they had been seeing a dip in web traffic over the last 6 months, this certainly jump started it back up again.

exactly this!

The little $$$ they made on the clocks is spare change compared to the media rise this brought on. Clymer will be a Billionaire in 5 years.

I don't subscribe to "any publicity is good publicity". The public panning Hodinkee rightly got over this clock lives on in the internet. Customers considering purchasing future Hodinkee-branded luxury goods will rightly be suspicious they're being sold b*s if they do any background research online, and Hodinkee don't help themselves the way they hype their offerings with over-the-top language.

Agreed. The axiom *might* be true when it comes to individuals, but it is certainly not true when it comes to a brand.

All I got from that article was this;
"In short, like every other HODINKEE branded product, we tried to create something special and thoughtful. And we are really proud of the end result. And based on how fast it sold, we know that some people feel the same way."

So still seems to be no clarity on exactly how many were actually available and that sold out, we're told it was a fraction of the total run, but how many? "How fast it sold..." could even imply they only had one finished and sold, tho I don't think this is the case. Why continue to use linguistic loopholes? Half their buyers are probably attorneys who see right through this stuff.

I bought this JLC because of the Fokker F27 aircraft on it. It seems it was offered by Fokker to special customers. It didn't work so I got it serviced and probably committed a sin by modifying its look. All in I spent about $2k on it but I love the uniqueness of it. I have no idea if its a real JLC movement but it says so on the dial 馃槈
