His & hers pairs

My lady is always coveting my collection, and sometimes I covet hers. I buy almost exclusively vintage and she benefits from my collecting as she gets the ones that are too small for me (under 30mm), or vintage ladies watches that I think are just too cool (obviously she has input here as I know her style). Of course she has obsconded with a few of her favorites from my collection, including a Tudor of mine, but at least I know where it is. We have often joked about getting his/hers models but for many of the vintage brands, the ladies watches were so stylized for women that there wasn't a male equivalent (Omega and Rolex were actually pretty good about doing matchy his/hers sport watches that were near identical)
My watchmaker learned of someone looking to sell a ladies 60's Seawolf and having worked on my Seawolf (and knowing my zeal for the brand), he immediately thought of me. My wife has always loved my black Seawolf and often jokes of stealing it from me, so now we have the pair!
This little thing should clean up beautifully.

Next, I'll try to track down the ladies Bulova 666's that match mine, and perhaps see if there was a ladies C-cased Connie with slate dial....this is going to be fun.

That's very cool. I've never seen a mid size seawolf before.

Congrats. Very nice pair of his & her Seawolf watches.

My wife and I both bought Rolex watches back in 1984.
They aren't exactly a matching pair but we did get the same color blue dial on them.

(Note, neither watch is showing the correct time or date. I just pulled them out for the picture).

Wife did not want a datejust. She tried on ceramic and aluminum submariners, but looked too big. Ended up with a 36mm Explorer 1.

Just super - this is one of the most stylistically appealing his/hers pairs I have seen!
Fortunately, Mrs Danaos isn't into watches, and that's saved me a great deal of money over the years. OTOH, Ms Danaos is a young lady for whom a 50s/60s piece often checks all boxes for size and style. Whenever she visits, that watchbox lock is ON. 馃榿

Pop on over to the bargain thread and pick up a couple Bulova's or Wittnauers and leave those in front of the watch box when she comes over 馃槑
The best diversion is something immediate and shiny.

This is great topic for a thread and a fun theme for a sub-collection. Unfortunately, I don't think my wife would wear those smaller ladies versions. She used to wear smaller watches, but now she has come to prefer watches in the 35-38mm range. She likes the way they look, and also the dials are more visible without reading glasses.

And mine would agree with you. Her daily work watch is a 37mm Seiko 5 with the Mil-style dial, but these vintage sport watches are very charming for fun days out. I got her an early 60's 19mm Omega WG cocktail watch with faceted crystal and integrated mesh bracelet years ago, she can't see the dial for shit, but it's great jewelry.

Oh hey! Finally some competition 馃榿. Nice Shewolf, btw. I like mine, which is a later model, but the stainless steel bezel models do get me.

There are a number of Bulova [She]Devil divers out there, in both the Accutron and mechanical persuasions that I've seen. I don't think I've seen a ladies Connie with anything other than a cream or silver dial, though I have seen both gold and steel cases (I have the latter).

The whole "ladies versions of tool watches" thing is pretty much the theme of what I collect. Vintage Omega in general is pretty rich for his and her pairs, with the exception of the chronograph movements. I have a ladies Zodiac Olympos that's pretty damn adorable and have seen some ladies Astrographics floating around. Certina and Rado are also usually pretty good for companion pairs, Zenith has some but the ladies Defys don't show up very often. Hamilton had a couple, but again, not particularly common.

This thread does make me glad my wife is happy with the occasional bouquet of flowers
