Wow, what a great post! 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the effort...great comparison shots. Cheers, RP

I would say the SM300MC is probably the best benchmark to the Autavia, with similar lugs, height and dial diameter.

Excellent post by @herold

I was on the magical mystery watch boutique tour when trying the Autavia on, and I also popped into the Omega dealer and tried on the SM300MC as well (there was a used example I'd been eyeballing a while back and I wanted to get an idea of how it wore - spoiler: fantastically well).

Just my opinion, but the Autavia felt larger on the wrist than the SM300MC, despite being relatively the same height.

If you look closely at the pic @herold posted above, you'll note that the side of the Autavia drops down flush with the wrist, while the SM300MC's sides are thinner and don't sit flush with the wrist because of the caseback, which protrudes from the bottom of the case.

I'd continue to say that the current Black Bay is the best comparison.

I'd be curious to hear if @herold agrees, given he actually owns the thing and my impression is based upon less than ten minutes on-wrist with a band not sized for me 😀

Oh... one more thing... I also tried on this:

Talk about a watch that was made for my wrists!!! I will definitely own this one at some point 🥰

I hadn't thought about the Black Bay, but look what I found lying around the house.....

The Heuer is still a bit chunkier, but not much

Haha! Is there any watch I can name that you can't immediately pull out of your watch box 😉

What's your verdict? Which compared most closely?

Haha. Luckily there are still many I don't have. I call that an opportunity, or indeed a cornucopia of opportunity.

Hard to know which is closest. I think the Heuer is actually bigger than any others that I own. I think you were probably right about the Black Bay, however the Heuer is a little more subtle in some ways. It doesnt have slab slides. The key is - not too large as I had feared.

And thanks for the encouragment..

It is a fantastic watch and kudos to Tag for a job well done of producing a modern watch with just the right amount of inspiration from the past!

Stopped into an AD today and they happened to have one in stock! So of course I had to try it on.

It's absolutely gorgeous, and wears quite well on my ~6.5" wrist I think -- the chunky bezel actually keeps the dial at a nice size for the larger case. It is quite thick though, sits very high above the wrist. Maybe not a dealbreaker, but it's what is keeping me from getting one for now (well, that and the $5,100 MSRP).

Looks very nice on leather. I wish the bezel was skinnier and dial bigger. Otherwise looks great.

When I saw the first picture of the prototype I felt that the bezel was too wide. A few pictures later and it's growing on me. I also like the fact that it has a nicely integrated date

Finally saw the Autavia today. The case and bezel proportions are much better live. Looks better on the strap...polished case with shiny BOR bracelet much too bling for me. Good effort by Tag-Heuer, but I still think last year's Monza was a nicer watch.

I had seen the Speedy Tuesday a month ago and I can definitely say that I think it looked better proportioned and classier, compared to the Autavia. Comparison shot below with my Speedy XI-45.

PS. The Tag-Heuer Rio boutique manager did not have any knowledge of the upcoming Jack Heuer 85th Autavia LE👎 Very weak staff compared to my local OB. The Tag sales girl tried to sell me Autavia, saying it was a super watch because the distressed leather strap looks so nice🙄

first time posting..

i like this watch but i feel like the dial is small and everything around it is too big. i understand that they did a lot of research into making it but they should have proportioned it well. 42mm is ridiculous but thats what sells these days.

this.

if this had been a reissue like Omega did with the Trilogy, TAG Heuer would have already had my money.

I get what you mean about the "bracelet bling". The watch and I have still have not completely bonded, although I do like it, and I am thinking (hoping) it is the bracelet What was your feeling about it on leather? This is my more preferred thing anyway. I was thinking of going to the Tag Boutique and seeing what it was like on that camel strap.

I liked it on the leather strap, great option for a casual wear chronograph...if I did not have an incoming Speedy Tuesday I would certainly consider it on my shortlist.

a huge missed opportunity from TAG, imo. there seems to be a bunch of these for sale all over the internet by people who bought them. it just has too much TAG and not enough Heuer. an amazing idea to get the WIS community excited about the brand and they just couldnt help themselves in putting the elements most of us hate about TAG into the watch. too big, too thick, bezel out of proportion, and blinged out to all hell with the polish. oh and it has a date.

i havent seen one in person, perhaps it looks better than the pictures.

If I did not have the Speedy Tuesday coming, I would strongly consider this watch.

New version for Middle East.....

Not a fan. The discrete date window on the original and JH LE sticks out more like a sore.
