Help with my next purchase

Hi everybody. Somewhat of a luxury watch noob. I currently have a blue seamaster pro circa 2016 that I bought pre owned.

It's currently in for service and I'm looking to buy my next piece. I definitely want to stick with the Omega family but I0 would like to buy my next piece new rather than used. Looking to keep it at or under 6k.

What is the next logical step in my collection? What are considered the quintessential or must own Omegas? Don't know whether to go for a Speedmaster, or there was a watch a few years back that had orange accents and it came with an orange band but I don't remember what it was...

Taking any and all opinions. This watch isn't for a specific purpose. More of an EDC watch. Doesn't need to be too dressy.

Thanks everyone!

You might want to reset your expectations. You're about ten years too late.

Oops. I thought smps were around that. I'll have to check out current pricing then.

If the currency you're thinking of is EURO than 6k will be enough for new 3-handers from OMEGA, but not Speedmaster (unless you find some very good deal / sale).

I would absolutely choose the Speedmaster, the watch worn on the Moon. Great combo with your Seamaster.
Yes, you can get new 3861 Speedmaster with hesalite crystal and black nylon strap for under 6k in euros. The list price is 6,1k, but you should get some discount.
Also you can still find new Speedmasters with the older 1861 movements. With hesalite and steel bracelet the price is 5,1k in euros. The sapphire versions are more expensive. With the hesalite glass: that is the most classic and historically more relevant Speedy. But you can more easily get some scratches, because of the nature of hesalite. I personally find the hesalite more beautiful.

Pros with the 3861 movement:
- latest movement, anti-magbetic, hacking seconds, accuracy
- excellent travelbag for the Speedy included

Pros with the 1861 movement:
- more classical Speedy, closer to the model that astronauts used on the Moon
- the presentation box is amazing experience:
Spare straps, loop, strap changing tool, great booklet about different Apollo missions..

Happy hunting, I hope this helps!

Thanks for that, really helpful!

The new speedmaster seems to be hard to get in my area. But they've got a new SMP for $5200 in black. The one I'm having serviced is blue, but it's the previous generation with smooth dial. Maybe I'll get the current black smp.

Speedmaster. All the way! 😎

Planet Ocean. They made one in gray w/ orange accents on the watch and strap. And once with a black dial with more of an orange/copper colored bezel. Love the gray and orange Planet Ocean but they don't sell them new anymore.

I had actually never seen this one before. Looks better on a steel bracelet, IMHO.

I would steer away from another SMP just because it is, in essence, the same piece you currently own.

I think a Speedmaster is a great compliment to your collection, and a good variety to choose from. Difference aesthetic and function/complication. Note the there is likely higher long term servicing costs with a chronograph so keep that in mind.

Yes, happy hunting!

I have a SMP 2551.80 and a Speedy FOIS and the two watches do compliment each other perfectly as you say. So my advice to the OP is a definite "yes" to the Speedy. The FOIS is a bit more "dressy" and vintage looking if that's the sort of look the OP prefers, but you'll have to get it from the secondary market as it's only recently discontinued.

+1 for the Speedmaster, 3861 or 1861 whichever you prefer but my choice would be 3861 for the new movement and step dial. Actually looks quite a lot like the new 321. Different to the watch you currently own and can be dressed up or down.

happy hunting!

You have never seen the old Planet ocean? Its way out of production.

Forgive the repetition, but if you’re looking for the “quintessential” Omega, particularly where you already own a SMP, the Moonwatch is your go-to.

Tell me you don’t love this:

Best of luck.

I don't love this. 😁 I had a Speedmaster for a decade and traded it away.
Hope OP finds something he likes. For me it was the 2254.50.00 to replace that Speedmaster.

I can’t fault you, my friend. I have a 2264.50 and my god it’s a beautiful piece.

That's the wonderful thing about Omega. For the most part, there is something from nearly every era that will appeal to one person or another.
