Would the great minds on this forum give me some advice on this 69 Speedmaster I’ve found? Wasn’t really looking for another 69 but seller has listed for a good price and I really like the overall look and vibe of the watch. Just want to get some outside opinions on it first. Thanks OF.
Wellworn watch but no lemon! If you like the vibes go for it if you don't mind the caseback engraving The watch looks consistent in its parts, DON with some small issues, lume looks still nice, clean movement. Is it below 5K USD?
Not a bad specimen at all, if you ask me. Looks honest. 5k USD is fair in today’s market, but as pointed out above, not cheap. Prices have gone up quite a bit on these.
If you’re not too attached to the idea of buying an 145-022.69 with DON, there are some nice options for sale in the forums too; https://omegaforums.net/threads/bea...-chronograph-145-022-69-small-project.104101/ https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-speedmaster-145-022-69-4200.102476/#post-1365952 (For the record; I’ve got no connection to the sellers of the Speedies above. But would be tempted to buying if I wouldn’t yet have a few nice examples)
First year of the 861. Nice that it comes with the original case back. Most speedies with the monster back sent to Omega back in the 70’s had the back replaced with the “official watch... “ inscription. To me, that lowers the collector value but yours with the original case back is excellent. The case could be cleaned up and the DNA grunge removed. Even resurfaced. Be aware, the pusher tubes and pushers have gaskets which are probably useless as is the original crown gasket. If the tubes and pushers retain their original plating then I would renew the gaskets without exchanging the parts. Requires some skill but is doable. Omega does not replace parts with like parts all the time, just what is on hand in some cases. For example I have seen a flightmaster sent to OMEGA and it had all three crowns replaced with standard Omega stamped crowns. So with my flightmaster I removed the blue and black crowns and replaced the gaskets in them as well as the bicolored pushers then reinstalled them. Keeps the watch as is original. For me, 5K USD plus, if you are not handy, another 1500 at Omega for a full service spa. Maybe talk about that to see about lowering the price. Don’t rely on the seller to tell you if the watch runs correctly unless they have an official document from a reputable watch maker stating such. Geoff
I’ve heard a little about this from another OF member who has filled me in a little on that story. Definitely scares me away from the seller.
While we are on the subject of 69s - is there any good rule of thumb with tropical dial pricing? I cannot find anything and pricing seems to be all over the place - usually very expensive but the ones I see listed for sale here usually just sit. I would love to get a tropical dial 69.
