Hi Everyone!

I've recently been given a load of items from my grandmother who passed away about 15 years ago. In with all her stuff I found this watch but I can't figure out what it is.

None of us know anything about it and she seems to have it hidden away. Doing some research it seems to be closest to a vintage ladymatic I found a picture of online but it doesnt have the ladymatic markings and when I tried to take the back off to look for a serial number, instead the whole face and mechanism comes out from the glass and "frame" of the watch so I still cant find any details on it.

Sorry there's not much info here but I'm stuck and don't want to break it and honestly I haven't even a clue who I could take it to for more info.

Help me Omega forums, you're my only hope!

I can't help you out much with this one from the photos you've shown (maybe someone else is familiar enough to tell from a glance) but the bracelet is stamped for 18ct white gold. That scraps out t around £22 ($30USD if we're still in the $1.3/£ range) per gramme ... I'm sure you can get an idea of value from that.

Find a reputable jeweller who deals in watches or a watchmaker in your area who can remove the caseback. Inside the caseback you'll find the reference numbers and hallmarks that you'll need to identify the watch along with where and when the case was manufactured.

These watches are not fashionable at the moment so they don't bring much of a premium over scrap... but it was your grandmother's. Hopefully someone in the family will decide that means the watch is priceless.

It's an Omega Sapphette.

Here is a catalog page from 1960.

As was mentioned above, it's pretty much worth the scrap value, which is probably in the hundreds.

What sort of person was your grandmother? Would she have wanted you to keep and perhaps spend money on a watch you wouldn't normally want, just because it was hers? Or would she have preferred you to sell it for scrap and have a great time on the proceeds, perhaps even raising a glass of champagne to her memory?

which is probably in the hundreds.

Hundreds of what? Euro, GBP, Potatoes, UDS, Yen, Truffles....?
Since neither you or the OP has reveled your location, its kind of a hard guess, don't you think? 😉

Potatoes.

Actually I'm in the UK but it's going to be in the hundreds of pounds, Euros, dollars US Can and Aus, Swiss Franc, roubles, kroner....you get the idea. Works for most of the major currencies and please accept my profound apologies if I've left your currency out

I'm from the UK too so what you said is very interesting. We strongly suspect from the items that were with it its actually something she was given or left at some point and she was the sort of person who valued good times with friends and family (not to mention a good glass of wine) and to be honest if I can get a few hundred pounds for it and have a nice slap up night out with the family or something I'm inclined to do that, we know all the heirlooms she named and passed on and this watch was obviously not something she valued highly.

Hopefully I can find someone around Liverpool that will give me a reasonable price for it. Thanks again everyone!
