Hey everyone, I recently came across this Speedmaster at a local estate sale. I’ll be headed back this morning to see if I can get a movement picture. They’re asking $3500, since they know the brand, but she also mentioned getting a new battery, so they aren’t experts here.

It’s in loved shape for sure, but $3500 does seem like a solid price in today’s world. I’ve always wanted to add a Speedmaster to my collection but I’m not an expert on these, especially vintage.

Here’s two quick photos I snapped. Does anyone see any major red flags here? Printing on the dial seemed a little off but that could be age.

At that price I’d have been walking away with it. Taking a big risk leaving that one for 24 hours at that price.

Pretty confident it won’t move. The house and our area doesn’t really support people looking for these. They figure it won’t sell either but it was a gamble. Guess I’ll know soon.

Regardless, go back and buy it at the earliest opportunity.

There are people who travel all over for estate sales. But TBH, they are usually the first ones in the door, so you may be ok. Don't haggle, don't mess around with movement photos. Just grab it and run away. The bezel and bracelet are worth more than the asking price.

This is the key. Your downside risk is 0

No brainer!!

My best recent score was finding a 69ST without a bezel or bracelet for $2500USD; finding one in decent nick for $3500 with a DON and 1039/516 is a steal…

Reserved. Just need to get the cash. Couldn’t get the case back open but that probably makes sense as it’s probable never been serviced.

clasp has 2 70 on it so that’s Q2, 1970, right?

Sheesh, please don't post any more until you have the watch in your hands.

Also, I got it to wind, chrono works, but resets to about 1 second instead of straight up. Guessing this is all just signs of lack of service.
