my configuration choice : no-logo-no-date-hand-wound. but for someone who does not want to finger his watch everymorning ... auto would be second choice...

Hot damn ... have not looked at their website for a while. Their new bronze offerings are fab ...

I’d recommend these 35mm watches - classic and unfussy. Also the Hamilton posted earlier

Mechanical or quartz / battery / solar?

I'd be surprised if anyone except a watch enthusiast would want a mechanical piece these days. Given the maintenance costs I'd have thought your best option is to go for something non-mechanical. Based on that, for £700 you've got a lot to choose from.

He's an architect, hates fussy dials, must be on a brown leather strap. Would probably be happy with a Braun or a Mondaine,

The Braun and Mondaine are terrific choices.

For sure, are there any TAGs in that price range? I feel like I've seen some - may be wrong.

Last time I checked Nomos was multiples of 700gbp (like 3 or 4 or 5)...

I also thought Nomos immediately, but they would require a higher budget.

Indeed that's true for new watches, I was thinking second hand.

As the family watch nerd the heavy burden of finding a watch for my father-in-law has been placed in my slightly sweaty hands.

He's an architect, hates fussy dials, must be on a brown leather strap. Would probably be happy with a Braun or a Mondaine, but come on watchfam, we can do better than that right?

What do you suggest!?

Actually, it might help us all to know what size watch you think your father in law would appreciate. Has he got big wrists - and a 40mm like the above Jazzmaster would neither look nor feel too big, or a slim wrist - which suggests a 35mm watch might be less intrusive.

Presumably, he still uses his hands for drawing etc, so something less clunky and heavy might feel lighter on his wrist.

I don't know about TAGs. I rather like Yema. Nicely designed, good quality I think. https://eu.yema.com/

I got a lot of emails from YEMA recently regarding a sale of some sort? Think they also released some bronze watches. They honestly look great.

Yes, they're hot on marketing. They actually have a pretty much ongoing sale of one sort or another. They have their own in-house movements which have recently been improved and the new watches are being released now, which is why they are clearing old stock. Personally, I'm not a fan of the bronze models, but many do like them. I like their divers and chronos.
