Help on valuing Omega

Hi guys,

My local auctioneers are selling this watch as part of an estate sale. It’s running but I will be getting it a full service if I buy it.

i appreciate that quality is a massive factor, but anyone any ideas what these sell for I reasonable condition? Ball park

If it's legit, that particular dial is quite desirable, but it's pretty uncommon and the vast majority are repainted. I would need to scrutinize some better photos to be confident. So at this point, I can't say more than that it's in the range $300-$1200, just depends on your risk tolerance and ability to identify a re-dial in person. The crown doesn't appear to be original.

I did take a look in person and it appears to be genuine, I’ll upload some high res photos if I win it and obviously get it under a loupe!

One thing I can see is that the lume dots appear to be missing from the outer ends of the markers, which is what one often sees on a repainted dial. In your place, I would be very conservative in my bidding. If the dial is repainted, which it probably is, the value plummets.

It’s the dial that matters. Can you get and post a clear, straight on photo of the dial..?

Regular dial seamaster from the same period in good shape goes for 850/1200 depending on condition and beauty. I m not sure how market considers premium for this kind of dial.

Seconds hand looks wrong too and possibly a stress fracture in the crystal at 7 o clock....

A project watch at best if the dial is correct. Otherwise a pass.

A nice looking 2846. I echo the above as this will be a project watch. I’m leaning towards the dial being original but it’s still quite hazy. The yellowish/gold script looks correct as well as the style of “S” in seamaster.

Thanks for the input everyone, really appreciate it! Managed to win it at £200 which I thought was worth a punt.

once I’ve got it I’ll post photos etc.

It does, quite difficult to photograph because the crystal is damaged at that position.

I’ll pop the case back off and take the dial out when I get home.

Photos aren’t great but that looks original to me.

Is there darkened radium remaining at the outer tips of the hour markers or are the recesses empty?

These waffle dials are always hard because the printing is never as fine. That said, the loopy bottom of the "S" looks a little funny to me and the completely missing lume (with no damage) is also a flag. Also very unusual not to have any indication of where the rehaut/crystal-ring has been contacting the dial for 70 years. So I'm going with re-dial, but an attractive one.

The recesses are all empty which I think someone said is common of a redial. It’s very intricate work if it’s a redial. Even under the loupe I’m struggling to see inconsistencies!

In my opinion the value of this watch it's about 300-400 Euro .
