Help needed on a potential Seamaster 166.009 buy

Hi OF,

I'm a longtime lurker, but this is my first post. I'm looking high-and-low for an Omega Seamater ref. 166.009 56X cal, and came across a listing on Chrono24 that's in my price range.

A few things caught my eye that made me suspicious though, and I'd love your thoughts:

1. the date (wheel?) color doesn't match the dial (first attached image)
2. the different-colored rotor (second attached image)
3. the ref. number in the back case shows 14762 (third attached image)

I am far from an expert on these, but the hands appear to be lumed, I dont think thats correct for this watch

I'd prefer not, but then again my primary concern is quality and longevity, as I want a daily wearer that will last. (Although I'm not wild about that different colored date background.)

So if the redial was well done and it was in very good working condition, I could be happy 😀 I'm still worried about the inside though, given that rotor looks out of place.

Here is how the hands should look with those markers on a 166.009 (and also what a sharp case looks like). As you noted, the OP watch appears to be a ref 14762, not a 166.009, although the cases are certainly similar, so maybe that's not an issue.

P.S. With a $1k budget, I think you can find a nice honest example.

Thanks for the reference Dan S—that is a beauty! And yes they are extremely similar and so not much of an issue for me, but I think you're right regarding holding out for a more honest example. There just seem to be too many flags with this one.
