I have seen one with steel case in the flesh from an estimated Italian collector.

Yes, I think the steel case combo might be a little more plausible. But the combination of the dial, steel hands and a Gold filled case seems to be an unlikely combination to originate from Omega.

This is a great thread and thought it should be resurrected because the first watch (2846) that was discussed reappeared this week on IG. It was posted by Omega_enthusiast who represented it as an all original rare model. When I posted my opinion (similar to what others bring up in this thread) that the watch looks like a marriage I was personally attacked by the Omega_enthusiast. When both Bill Sohne and myself suggested he post the watch on OF for discussion we got blocked. Hopefully this thread is found when the future buyer of this watch does their "due diligence" on the watch.

This is how you were protrayed. Not cool.

I have seen so many unusual watches that are absolutely original and the only thing I'm sure of is that we haven't seen it all yet.

As long as he intends to keep this watch and not sell it, I don't see any problem with him showcasing it as original. But if he is ever going to sell it, I sure hope he shares his sources proving the originality of this one.

If someone was trying to be tricky with this watch surely they would have just put that lovely dial in a steel case? Less debatable?

My feeling is that there was jiggery pokery involving unrelated dials and cases, but that it happened years ago for practical purposes rather than for current financial gain. It does seem based on the watch shown earlier in this thread that even if this is a genuine 2846 variant (and to be honest I doubt it is) no extract info can be obtained to support this dial, so we may just never know. Maybe these were early test SM300 dials that escaped into the wild from Singer or whoever, or maybe an off shoot of the special variations done for military purposes (eg PAF Sea/Railmater) or an aborted Auto SC Ranchero variant but unless there is a record we can't be sure. As it is, Occam's razor indicates a marriage or even redial is more likely than an unrecorded prototype IMO, particularly with the capped case.

I don't see any valuable point here. Look at the vast quantity of pointless redials out there that could be closer to reality with literally no additional effort.

For a normal online post, I think it is fine. But for someone who is selling himself as an expert dealer and has a sizable following, it would be nice to be transparent about issues surrounding originality of a watch, lest people start buying the same watch based on his post.

Fair point.

I always have problems with these kind of texts. It's the same if I sold myself as the best lawyer in the Netherlands. I always advise my clients to stay as far away from these kinds of lawyers as possible. Narcissistic personality traits are always the first warning signs. Although he has some nice watches... : )

But I have been telling everyone that you are the best attorney in the Netherlands. Now you say it's not true? 😲

Charming! 😲
My point was...
I don't see any malicious actions going on with this watch. The dial looks good, the hands look good, the movement looks good. The case of course raises questions, but had the case been SS in colour there wouldn't be as much of a question mark.

Next time I post, do I have to run my comments by you first so you can let me know if they are valuable enough to join the discussion about watches on a watch forum? 😁

I didn't mean to be disrespectful and I'm sorry my message gave this impression. I probably misunderstood your post myself. I thought you meant that there was nothing tricky with this watch because the glitch was obvious, and I saw tricky watches with horrible stuff on them.

Again, no aggressive intentions from my part, sorry.

I'm just pulling your leg!
I would never take myself so seriously 😉
I know I have posted drivel in the past but I like doing it. 👍

Of course that is true. But let's keep that together for a while. By the way, I'm also incredibly handsome, funny, charming, versatile and women think I look like George Clooney. It is a pity that OF cannot fully enjoy me. What an asset that would be to everyone's life.

I believe every single word of this.

What do we think of this one? I would assume it’s a redial, but maybe I’m wrong?

(Posting it here because of the relevant discussion of Omega Enthusiast)
