Help Me Choose My First Omega

After much though and looking at pictures, two trips to an OB to see them in person and on the wrist, I have made my decision.

I am getting the Speedy Hesalite. This is the watch that really got me interested in Omegas in the first place. Also, while at the OB the second time, I got to put both the Speedy and the SMP on the wrist and really let both sit on the hand for a bit. The Speedy just fit! After that trip, there was no question.

I have made a payment to one of the trusted sellers here on the forum today and now anxiously awaiting for the shipment!

Thank you all for your help and suggestions in this process.

Congrats! You can’t go wrong with a classic. My Speedy Pro is 43 years old and I never tire of wearing it. Enjoy it in good health.

Congrats on the watch! The Speedmaster is a great choice for a starter Omega, especially considering its interesting history. I don't think you'll regret it.

The co-axial refers to the escapement mechanism (as opposed to the more common Swiss lever escapement). However, neither is necessarily more accurate than the other. The main supposed plus of the co-axial escapement is that it reduces friction and so wear and tear, possibly extending service intervals, although the jury is still out on that. I have a modern Omega with a co-axial escapement and a Blancpain with a Swiss lever escapement - both have almost exactly the same accuracy (approximately +1.5 sec/day).

You need to decide between wanting a chrono and a central seconds hand. From your post it seems that the latter is more important to you, which rules out most if not all chronos. If so, consider looking at the Aqua Terra 150M models. The latest version come as either 38mm or 41mm case size, a variety of different dial colors, and bracelets/straps

Thanks guys! Im very excited for it to come. I am unfortunately going on vacation in a week and a half, and that would have meant the package would very likely arrive when Im gone. So the seller and I decided it was best for him to hold off on shipping it out until next week. That way it'll arrive after I am back.

Well, here is the Speedy! Finally in my hands! I’ll throw a quick wrist shot for now, and update my buying experience and more photos later!

The band hasn’t been sized yet, so it’s just resting on the wrist.
