·Hi,
I was given an Omega by my grandmother a few years ago that promptly stopped working. I believe before i was given it it was working and was serviced (not with Omega), the strap is obviously relatively new and not official Omega.
At the time she wasn't sure where it had come from but had been rattling round the house for a long time (maybe 50 years or so) and probably wasn't new then. My grandfather used to do legal work after the 2nd world war and often did it for payment in kind for those who couldn't afford what they needed, most likely this is how he acquired the watch.
I recently took it to a shop to get serviced and they quoted that it would cost over £1,000 to get working again and would charge me £60 to send it to Omega to get the exact estimate. This doesn't feel like it would be worth the money (could just buy another for less) as another shop i took it into to get serviced but they wouldn't do it and tried to buy it off me for £2-300.
I have no idea how to take the back off (and don't really want to in case i break it) but some advice on the following things would be great!
Any idea how old it is?
Any idea what watch it is?
Is it worth repairing for £1,000?
Any guesstimate on value?
I love the look of the watch
