Hi all,

I’m still here, lurking and looking for the right watch.

I am still hanging in there with my preferred date of 1972 (based on the serial number) - for the avoidance of doubt the husbabd does have other gifts to enjoy! 😀

Thoughts on this one, listed for £990

thanks as always x

Welcome to the forum. That Geneve you just posted looks okay to me, but that price would scare me off.

yes, I think the price is high (possibly) usually someone will come along with some suggestions or damage I haven’t noticed.

I see @Davidt posted this thread on page two, but it's worth posting again. I know you're searching for a specific year, but this thread has been an excellent resource to learn about condition, pricing, many references, and seasoned collector's insights on a broad range of pieces. You may or may not find what you're looking for here, but it will provide quite a bit of knowledge that could help you along your journey/hunt.

Some people really like manual wind watches. The only ones I really like are Panerai's and I personally don't care for vintage watches. I would research Panerai's maybe for a future birthday gift. 😀

thank you, this could be the start of a collection but initially at least it’s to mark my husbands birthday so the year is significant. I feel as (present) non collectors the meaning will otherwise be lost.

That aside, I just haven’t found a the right watch, regardless of date.

There has been some excellent advice that has saved me from expensive errors (including missing lume, damaged cases and a redial)

Thank you x

@MissDee The price seems too high for this model.
technically and aesthetically the watch is correct.

If you really love your husband, you should buy him an Automatic watch. Seamaster or above. Sorry, I'm just honest 😉

The last Geneve looks nice but waaaay overpriced. Also, the dial does not say Automatic, but it has an automativ movement. Strange.

You really like that clean, reduced design, don't you?

What about a nice Seamaster Cosmic, for me that's real 70ies design... (I'm from the the 70ies too)

A bit overpriced, ok, but all SC2000 are a bit overpriced...

Unfortunately no pictures from the movement so one can't confirm the build date.

what do you think of that (apart from that ugly bracelet) ?

Both are automatic, not 1972 (I’m trying) 😁
The bracelet is not original and looks really strange at that case. These cases should have bracelets that have the same width than the case.

Normally, a bracelet is not a big issue, but here it will be hard to find a matching one for this case.

The condition of the Geneve and the Omega (without model name) is ok, but not good. Not for a present.

Fun thread, MissDee!

I'm pulling for you to get the closest thing to a '72 that you can turn up. It would add meaning to your gift to your husband.

Is it a red flag if the word “automatic” is missing on
on an auto piece?

Thank you!

If my husband was already a collector the date wouldn’t matter so much but as this would be his first starter piece I’m trying to keep to the significance of the gift.
