Hello all,

This will be my first time posting here so I do hope that I've put this in the right place. In advance, thank you to anyone who can offer any advice to me on this particular watch.

I've been looking for a 1940's 30T2 watch for a while (My first Omega) and I've come across one in particular that I like the look of. I'm relatively inexperienced with purchasing vintage watches and would like some help confirming that this watch is genuine and any other thoughts on the piece. I'd be very grateful should anyone be willing to impart some knowledge!

The 30T2 movement looks good to me, and the serial matches for 1944. It looks to be in great condition, is this watch likely to have been repaired/upgraded? It is being sold as recently serviced with original dial and crown case. 34.75mm x 41.50mm from lug to lug x 18mm between lugs.

Thanks again!

Ash

Hi and welcome! I suspect it's a refinished dial aka 'redial', which reduces the value significantly. The 8 and 9 look poorly done, with uneven inking.

Thank you NT931! Very obvious now you've pointed that out. The fact its being sold as having the original dial puts me off. Whats the usual price for a watch like this with the original dial?

Hmm, I'm not sure - for that you'd have to consult the experts. The experts (who will be along shortly) will also be able to tell you what else is wrong with the watch you posted - if the dial's that bad, there's bound to be further evidence of horological malpractice!

Haha, I knew it was a sensible idea to post here before considering a purchase. I'll await further expert opinion but thank you for the quick observation and setting me straight!

8, 9 and 10 are repainted for sure. The rest of yje dial looks original to me. However it doesn't make a difference with a fully redial in my humble opinion.

Thanks Tire-Comedon, are you saying that a redial is acceptable for you or that you wouldn't purchase a watch with a redial in your opinion?

For me it decreases the value drastically. I would consider a redial only for a rare watch, this is not the case here.

Thank you again for your sharing your thoughts. Much appreciated and as I suspected.
