Hey! So I’ve done some homework on this one. The movement looks right, the only thing that seems off is the writing on the dial. It looks repainted but I’m not sure. Thanks! (Also I know I’ve posted here a lot, just need to make sure I’m not making a dumb decision )

For the writing, I refrain, because we have some great Connie specialists who will know far more than I.

A great thing about OF though is you can always ask - we've all either gone or most of us are still in our learning curve, especially on vintage. 😀

Good luck!

What's wrong with the printing? The case would be the issue for me. I'm also curious what the experts say about the fact that different bridges appear to be plated differently (gold vs. copper?).

Just went back to bid on it. In the last couple hours it more than tripled in price . Definitely not something I can afford right now.

Correct or not, the dial is too ugly for me.
I'm intrigued by the single T, without hand lume. Are the hands correct ?

Well, it's basically unheard of to have a dial with lume and hands without lume. The combination isn't logical.

Dial looks ok, hour hand and minute hand have lume on them, I see it.

Second hand is generic and a bit too long.

I think you are seeing reflections from the angles, I don’t see lume there. I also see pretty bad case corrosion. That watch is a bit of a mess IMO.

I think the lume on the hands is there - you can just make out the squared edges of the space for it - it’s just a very over-exposed photo. (I wonder why?😒)

however, the watch is definitely a bit of a mess generally.
Polished case, spotty dial, lume on hands and indices don’t match, wrong seconds hand, Joseph’s technicolour dream coat movement, corroded case.

One to pass on.

I see your point. I think I see the cutout you mean on hour hand now. As you say a terrible photo. One to avoid anyhow.

Good eye, I did not see the lume on the hands.

What's with all the doom and gloom? It's not a complete write-off to me. For the right price it could be a fun project and cool wearer. Not all of these oldies lived a charmed life and if the movement can be cleaned and lubed to run decent then who cares if parts were replaced and the colors don't match? Screw the back on and wear the thing 😁

Fred’s Home for Wayward Watches.

You could be a little more discriminating.

But then, we wouldn’t get a Box o’ Bulovas, a Hectare o’ Horexes, a Groan o’ Gruens or an Ambulance o’ Accutrons. 😉

I could be a lot of things but I'm not a watch snob. I can enjoy a well-used watch that shows it's history honestly as well as that outlier of a drawer queen...so long as the price is right. Interestingly...those package deals of surplus watches from our "indiscriminate" watch treasure hunting sell within minutes to fellow members. No bumps, no exaggerated fluff in the descriptions, no baloney. Just honest fun. So you were saying? 😁

I think that each of us has our own range of condition that we'll find acceptable at the right price, and other watches that are just too far gone to interest us. This one just doesn't appeal to me personally. No single thing about it is giving me enough joy to want it on my wrist. If that makes me a snob, ok, I'll own the moniker.

Buying a lot of watches to pick one prize from the bunch is a different thing altogether, and I admire people who have the patience and hustle to do it.

I’m not talking about whether I can enjoy a worn watch. I’m talking about what we tell newbies when they show up with a fresh mouse in their teeth, so to speak.

I think teaching newbies to be picky is appropriate.

To me, newbies without standards are victims-to-be.

For my 2 cents worth, it’s got too much 'patina' for my taste.

Can't argue with that, but price is always the key for both newbies and veteran collectors. I'll tell ya one thing...if someone listed that watch featured in this thread for sale on this site for $250 there would be plenty of veteran collectors fighting over it. 😁
