Hi all, my first post. I spent some time reading through and you look a friendly bunch 馃榾

Appreciate some thoughts on a speedmaster I own. Although I haven't had the back.off recently (no tools) I recall from the serial number when I did that the movement is ~1979. I bought her from a watch shop in 2007 for 拢1,200. It had some form of recent service as the plastic crystal was box fresh. Felt on the money and I'm happy with what I got (even if I was potentially robbed)

I wear it daily and have never thought too much about its legitimacy until recently. The movement is genuine, I have no doubts it is a real Speedy but am starting to question some of the face.

- Strap is legit. 1171/633.
- I 'think' the face is at least the right age (Swiss made spacing, no step)
- crystal has omega stamp in centre but clearly newer than 1979
- hands are crisp white. I wonder if these were replaced 10+ years ago when it was serviced? Seem too white for age, although I think they are the right style for age, slightly whiter than markers on face and glow quite brightly still.

- Bezel is really confusing me though..
I've looked at so many pics and can't place it.

Any bezel experts able to give their thoughts?
It isn't DON and shouldn't be for age.
It has an accent over the E though which suggests it isn't an original 70's bezel, but then it doesn't look like a 90's bezel either..

I've looked at all the Bezel comparison posts and am yet to see the same one..

The 7 is quite different to 7's I have seen on 90's bezel, it seems curvier and has the vertical tail coming down at the top (I don't know official font speak). 90's 7's appear straighter

The dot under 70 is clearly bottom right, in the 90's bezel it is closer to the bottom centre.

The dot at 95 is positioned similar to 90's bezel.

Anyway, what do you folks think? Did they just change bezel designs regularly and every year is diff? Is the bezel not legitimate? I'd really appreciate your thoughts on my potential mashup.. 馃榾

Thanks

Good looking piece - watch is a nice Speedy, nothing super, nothing bad, fun piece to enjoy. Insert looks legit - not fake

(disclosure, I am not as strong on later 70s-90s Speedy inserts as I am on Rolex / Tudor inserts)

the bezel is a modern one, what you get today as a replacement. pretty good patina on it. a good daily beater...

From the pics looks fine just a new modern bezel.

Thanks a lot. Good to know it isn't a dodgy aftermarket. Shame it isn't correct with age but as you say, decent daily beater...

My guess is the bezel and hands were replaced along with the crystal, not long before you bought it.

Thanks. Seems to be the case doesn't it.
Really should get it serviced but if they keep replacing parts they'll be nothing left that's original

Have it serviced by someone who will accept directions not to change cosmetic parts, use the forum search function to find suggestions in your area.

Thanks that makes sense. I'd take a new crystal but apart from that would be nice to leave the rest. I'll get searching. Thanks
