    Hi,
I'm new to the forum and I have lots to learn. I had this conversation with my wife last night,

Me: "Dear, I'd like to buy a new watch. It costs about $3k."
Her: "Why do you need another watch?"
    Her: "Are you COLLECTING watches?"
Her: "How much do each of your watches cost?"
    Her: "No"
    Me: Silence ~~~~~~

lol :) How you guys to talk to your significant other when it comes to watches?
    FYI. I didn't buy the watch :(

    A monthly at least conversation.....

Me: Coffee in hand perusing OF.
Mrs. S, coffee in hand wanders by: “Have you sold any watches yet?”
    Me: “Not yet.”
Mrs S: “When is that going to happen?” “No more watches. RIGHT?”

Watch Collection Discussion With My Other Half
Her eyes glaze over & roll up to the ceiling
Face goes blank === showing no expression
As if to say " Oh no not that bloody subject again"
Just how many more do you want or need ???
However if your talking about Handbags & Shoes
That's a complete different bloody ball game all together
Her face lights up like a bloody light bulb....
She has more shoes & handbags than Imelda Marcos.
    I kid you not.....

@DinnerTime you don't ask, just buy the watch and take control of any conversation after the fact. Here's one approach.

    :)

Yes @alam ...all was going to plan!
DA38850A-937C-4A16-A11D-E441CC88C7A7.jpeg Until I took my son over to the bank to get him his own accounts and a key to the SDB. I made the mistake of showing and discussing the collection. He cracked under the relentless interrogation of his mother. (He’s a horrible liar) ...”Did dad show you his collection” ...... it was downhill from there. ::facepalm2::

Ha perfect. I put some watches online way overpriced so no one buys them but I can tell my wife yes I’m selling some. Only problem is once in a while someone has the nerve to actually contact me. Damn them.

I must say the discussion becomes more complicated when your wife makes more than you, by quite a bit.

I don't have these discussions with her. She has one small bill and pays her own CC bill off monthly. I never ask to see how she spends her school teacher paycheck. We keep separate checkbooks for ease of accounting. I pay all the rest, to include house, investments and extras. I do well enough so there is extra for me to pick u couple expensive pieces per year. After fully funding 401k, and other savings/investing stuff. So the don't ask don't tell policy works well. On the rare occasion she actually notices a new watch, I tell her-no secrets, she shrugs, on to next topic. She knows I save plenty, so she never gives me any issues. Watches are only out of extra $ after everything else is way covered. So, nothing for her to ever "resent/complain" about. Married 27 years, genuinely happy.
