    Hi,

I live in Philadelphia and I have 4 pieces that are in need of service. I saw good reviews of Sam Kalter here in earlier threads. Calling the number (215)629-1022 listed in those and on his Yelp page: https://www.yelp.com/biz/sam-kalter-watch-specialist-philadelphia-2 rings 4 times and then a voice says '123 test 123 test' followed by a bunch of tones that repeat so I don't think it's an answering machine.

Has anyone had recent dealings with him or have an alternate suggestion. The last time I tried to give something to Govberg (who I've bought a fair amount of contemporary pieces from) it was a vintage Longines chronograph- they took 4 months to say they would have to send it back to Longines who then said the only service they could do (for a small issue) was a full factory restore for $1,800 including replacing the plexiglass with crystal and generally mucking things up. By the time I got the watch back 14 months had elapsed. A horror show I do not want to repeat.

When I lived in LA I had some good options but would really like to find someone local to support and develop a relationship with. I like to keep my collection in tip top shape.

I travel to New York City fairly regularly someone there would be a good fallback too.

    Any input appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Nick

Search the web and find a list of approved watchmakers from various associations. I'd start there and only go with someone highly recommended/certified.

Take your time and do your homework.

I strongly recommend that you do NOT send your watch to Sam Kalter. You can read my review on Yelp.

I would look for a watchmaker that has an Omega parts account (at a minimum).
