Hi and welcome from Sydney, great to have another aussie on board!
I agree you have to try the watches on.
I believe that there is also an AD in Crown as was stated above, might just be worth a try as sometimes different AD's may have different stock.
Make sure you keep us posted about your progress.
Thanks for the tip and thanks to everyone for their advice. Will be paying the local AD a visit soon.

BTW The last thing I want is another expensive hobby. I have a enough of those, which include snow sports/snowboarding, cameras and monkey greasing on Renault Sports, only because they are French!

Check the difference between the OB at Crown and the other two before you buy.
Crown are expecting high rollers who just won a heap to splash out on a watch so the may not move on price.

Without a doubt the best pricing will be at Monard's on Collins. If you are price sensitive start there. The three OB's won't move on price, and Hardy's not sure.

Hi OF people,
I'm based in Melbourne Aust, and am embarking on my first ever purchase of an Omega watch. More specifically the Omega Speedmaster either the FOIS or the Professional Speedmaster 2018 version.

Its all news to me, so reading lots and watching lots of youtube videos atm.

Thanks !
Welcome and enjoy .

The speedy pro comes with a bracelet and a few straps 👍

What’s the price difference in store ?

Welcome to the party from Boston! I've heard grumblings about the FOIS caseback irritating wrists but IMO, the hesalite speedy pro on the leather strap is top notch. Enjoy!

So which way are you leaning? You can often negotiate to have them include a leather strap and DP buckle to seal the deal with the Pro which gives you max versatility. FOIS has 19mm lugs, less selection in straps. Never had any issues with caseback on FOIS being uncomfortable.

Tbh I really favour the history of the speedy pro with hesalite and what it represents. I’d like to read more about the provenance of the FOIS. I’m actually sitting on the fence 50/50 between the two choices atm. A pro with a leather strap would help me along the way, DP buckle?

DP = deployant buckle (folding buckle). If you decide on the Speedmaster Pro ask if they'll throw an Omega strap and Omega folding buckle as part of the deal. It's a fairly common tactic, Omega gets a sale without overly discounting the watch and the buyer gets the added flexibility. Win/win.

Hey man welcome aboard!

I'm in Melbourne too... I've been into a few of the aforementioned stores. Around 5k can be had for a Speedie at the boutique in the city.

Regarding which choice to make... ouf that's a hard one aye?! Moonwatch lineage vs a nice homage to a 2998 albeit with the Sapphire. Only you can make that decision really, and it depends on what's most important.

If I am about I would be tempted to come down from Sydney for a GTG.
Keep me posted

Melbourne based as well!
Looking for a FOIS as the Professional is a bit too big for me. So far i was not lucky in finding the right limited serial number (on the back) with some meaning or relevance to me.

A general question to the Mlebournians, which AD would you recommend and which ones not? Keen to get some feedback.

Starting to sound like a Melbourne GTG could be a thing!
Pretty keen to get something rolling in this regard. Any thoughts or appetite?

If it's an AD you're looking for, I have had really good experiences with Hardy Bros. in Collins St. If you look earlier in this thread there are a couple of alternative suggestions from other members too. Happy hunting!
