You'll be fine. Most people aren't aware of high end watches besides Rolexes. Most people who get robbed are drunk and not paying attention. Have fun and lock up your watch in the hotel safe when your away.

Enjoying a meal in a fine restaurant, laughing with friends in a fun bar, taking a unique tour are some of the best parts of European travel...you will regret not wearing one of your best watches during such experiences.

My wife and I just returned from two fabulous weeks in Antwerp, Paris, and Amsterdam. My two Omegas were alternately on my wrist the whole time and it felt fantastic.

Why not? Are you implying that foreigners, or immigrants must be criminals? How many people here do we think have moved from one country or another or have ancestors who were immigrants?

We have severe problems in Germany with criminal "tourists" from "Netherland" and "Belgium" blowing up ATMs. Always -if they get caught - you can read their names. At least/minimum one per week. Always close to the Autobahn,at 3 a.m. and "powered by any fast AUDI or BMW.
The German Government does not see the elephant in the room.
Sweden (gang shootings)now does, after the euphoric last years.
The actual "immigration" in Germany (past 7 years) can not be compared with the situation in US, UK or France - thats completely different!
I lived in G and now in F: I know the situtation, in F and G - believe me.

Odd. Why do we not see this sort of thing in Switzerland, that shares borders?

Swiss shares borders with....?

As said above: the "entry-countries" are Northern France, Belgium and the Netherlands. Maybe also Poland.
And maybe the ATMs have higher security-levels in NL or CH - and the judges are using their possible sanctions. I know the judgements here in France: fast, no probation and then: country expulsion for X years. Newspapers report also their full names, age , nationality. (Maybe I dont use the correct terms now) And : the Gendarmerie uses their weapons!

I just got back from Switzerland and France and there was a notable increased police presence in the larger cities, fully armed and ready for action. Just patrolling, often in groups of two or three, yellow vests, serious looking. Stores are limiting the number of people allowed in the store, even the Omega boutique in Zurich was doing this. Different feeling than five, ten, twenty years ago. Security has definitely been ramped up. The Gubelin store in Zurich has a man trap, first doors open and you walk in, the doors close and only then does the second set of doors open, not the most welcoming system but they obviously felt it is now necessary.

We should carefully watch for thread drift.

OK: the question was:
After reading several articles on watch theft in Europe my question to someone with more experience than me is wear it or put it in the safe and wear my knock around watch (stainless Casio G-Shock Utility)?

(And I am living and travelling in Europe)

First time traveling to London, Paris, Florence, and Rome. Staying in 5 star hotels with small group. My daily is a, just now, 1 year old Planet Ocean. After reading several articles on watch theft in Europe my question to someone with more experience than me is wear it or put it in the safe and wear my knock around watch (stainless Casio G-Shock Utility)? In addition to the bracelet I have a black alligator with deployment, a black textured rubber with deployment and a black NAT0. All are Omega straps. Wore the watch to St. Martin a couple of times and the attitude there was it was just another shinny dive watch!

Did you go yet? What watch did you bring? Favorite memories?
