Has anyone in the UK made a purchase from the EU for more than £135?

I live in France but import goods- specifically PVCu doors and windows from the UK , I have a haulage company that deals with the transportation aspect and all being well my first load since 1st January should arrive Tuesday.
We are all relatively content ( suppliers, transportation and myself), of the process and the correct paperwork is in place however I shall breathe a sign of relief when it all arrives.
They are using agents on both sides for the documentation but even the agents are not 100% sure on all the information relevant to the hauliers who primarily are a removals company.
When I met them on their first trip into France a couple weeks ago they still didn't know what the costs were going to be for removals. They know the cost of I putting the HS codes with the import and export agents but that's it.
They advised me in the overall cost of my shipment and the value of the goods , that the cost for this side of things really isn't too bad.
As far VAT/TVA is concerned ,it's shipped zero rated as it always has been.
Ultimately, we have not been able to find or obtain exact figures as to extra costs post Brexit- I will soon find out and can update more from my side of things.

Hi @ChrisN

My understanding is slightly different, but I will check with my team on Monday. As fas I know, the EU directive is aimed at simplifying and clarifying intra-EU trading.

Thanks. This is certainly not what I read into the document or what I have been advised so, I'll be interested to hear.

If I really have to collect VAT for different European countries, I will just stop dealing with the EU, except for existing customers My business is small enough and robust enough (UK and non EU customers) that I have a similar idea to the guy that @Spacefruit showed in the video.

Cheers, Chris

Well to wrap up my interest in this, and as if anyone cares, but my coffee grinder arrived from Italy VAT free at both ends. Result! And I didn't even vote for Brexit. Of course the net gain will not last long.

Perhaps because you didn't vote for Brexit 😁

From that gov't link. 2.2.

Afaik this is quite similar to what is required of shipments from outside EU that come in to EU. Those limits do change. Finland has much lower limit for VAT and Customs duty payables on commercial goods and even gifts.

the one thing government is very good at is collecting taxes.

Thanks having looked again as you say IMPORT VAT is triggered collected by U.K. gov. No way around it. It is not Seller VAT. Ugh! eBay pricing achieved by EU sellers from U.K. buyers should go down as a result. Should have added this to my list of reasons against brexit but doubt it would have made a difference....

Few docs listing the vat and duties you should expect in the EU and disbursement if DHL handle the customs for you.

MasterCard are proposing a five fold increase in transaction fees for British customers making EU purchases. Petition about that too.

In theory this is an inter trade rate increase (Mastercard to Trader) so shouldn't be passed on to customers, but of course it will in some form, and I expect closely followed by VISA and others. Then wait until the mobile 'phone providers join the bandwagon and lift roaming charge and data caps...I predict mobs and pitchforks

Where is it coming from, and when was it sent? Just curious if the delays have been resolved...

What should also be added is that it applies the other way - U.K. sales into the EU will also have a similar charge applied, amount dependent on the EU country where the the U.K. goods are being sent. It’s also why many large retailers have stopped cross border trading.

Correct. That's why I very recently didn't buy a pre-owned watch coming from England.
