Obviously we all need to do our due diligence, but I for one am very grateful for the level of sincerity and security on this forum compare to other locations. The moderators and the members really have made this a fantastic place to learn, discuss, buy, and sell and it is just flat out better than pretty much any place out there.

All this scammer talk is informative and all but how about a QB to help the "Hatter" get off the hot seat?

Normally I would have a sarcastic comment and threaten to give custom avatar messages, but since this is serious business given the level of scammery lately I'll refrain from being my normal jerk self.

Well, actually I should admit if I could have come up with a message <50 characters out of this post.....

..... I might have done one for CT.

EDIT - Trying one out. What do you guys think?

But there have been a few on Chronotrader, one with the shadows backwards, and the other very real looking.

I'm trying to send him some money for a watch but he gave me a western union account. That automatically rings alarm bells for me. Next he tells me his small bank doesn't accept international transfers. I work in foreign exchange and that isn't my understand of how the process works. The service I was has a clearing bank in the country normally so isn't an international transfer. I bought lots of item in different currencies and never had this problem before. The last person that I dealt with on here had the EURs in their account in 4 hours. Now if people have dealt with CajunTiger before then I will try to find a way but at the moment I'm concerned.

Sending money via Western Union is the easiest way to get ripped off. Doesn't matter if he is a respected member or not. Western union is like sending a letter via fax instead of email.

There are a million other ways to send money SAFELY with security in case you get scammed.... Western union is NEVER one of them!

absolutely wrong.
this wasn't a Western Union transaction as you know it. Its a bank to bank transfer, Western Union is just the intermediate bank. Its sop between US and International banks. In Europe SWIFT codes are used, The US refused to adopt this and is clinging to their archaic routing system so an intermediate bank is used to communicate between the two.

My mistake. Western Union you have no recourse if it's a scammer. Not in the US anyway.

I use (and have no connection to) www.transferwise.com very regularly to send money between the UK and US. Routing numbers aren't a problem, the fees are tiny when sending (last time it was <拢6 on an almost $2000 transfer) and there are no fees at all for the receiver. You get the market FX rate too. I think it works by not actuall sending money internationally, but matching up corresponding transfers (or bundles of transfers) both ways. So if I want to transfer to the US, and someone in the US wants to transfer to the UK, my money goes to their recipient, and their money goes to mine, so for the receiving bank it's always a domestic transfer. Other providers that do this are available but like I said I use this a lot. Takes a few days to complete so it's not instant, but it's a lot cheaper and I have no issues with the safety.

I've used Transferwise several times and they're absolutely great.

The fee is minimal and they don't sting you with a ridiculous exchange rate. They've saved me almost a grand over the last two years.
