Goethe's final words: Mehr Licht! or "More light." Ever since we crawled out of that primordial slime, that's been our unifying cry: "More light." Sunlight. Torchlight. Candlight. Incandescent. LED. Lights that banish the darkness from our caves, to illuminate the insides of our refrigerators. Light is more than watts. Light is metaphor.

Light is knowledge. Light is life. Light is light. We welcome that increasing light beyond the winter solstice to carry us forward. Light here at 61 degrees north is more than the 5 1/2 hours of the solstice sunrise to set. Celebrate the solstice, welcome the light, and embrace enlightenment!

Hmmm, does leftover spicy orange beef (Chinese-American dish) count? It was pretty good, so maybe I will try and make that a Washington, DC-region custom.

Any pumpkin can be in any state.
Or raw pumpkin, of course.
I think I eat a lot of simmered pumpkin.

Sunny and a projected high of 82 F in LA, we badly need some rain. 🙁

The rain is coming tomorrow evening and Thursday. Boy do we need it.

Here’s a photo to put things in perspective. This was Kansas last week. My daughter has a horse farm there. That isn’t a mountain in the background. It’s a wall cloud and these often spawn tornadoes. No tornadoes in her locale, but they did have sustained winds of 45 mph with gusts to 100 mph. Some minor damage, but could have been a lot worse. So a little darkness during the winter doesn’t really bother me.
