The pricing is interesting too; a bit below the 'premium' sapphire Moonwatch. What's your take on this? Is Omega backing up its Speedmaster range with a more 'attractively priced' offer in the wake of a slowing market?

(They surely have got me tempted, but hey, I know I have a weak spot for Speedies)

I think the answer to the first question is a yes, and probably a smart move. But it’s still priced $3000usd higher than the FOIS I bought from the OB in Nov 2021. That’s a big jump in under 3 years.

I am still sorely tempted though, I like it better than the numbered version if the pictures are representative.

Thinner caseback is a huge plus over the numbered FOIS edition IMO

That's one reason why I would've preferred a white seconds hand...

I made a mod with the same hands.

I'm with you on that. Otherwise really a beautiful release. The only other small nitpick I have is the two markers between the minutes. Would've loved it to have the four markers that the original has. But I understand that it's due to the beat rate of the movement.
My bigger nit to pick was when they went to the 861 (6 vibrations per sec vs 5 vps in the 321) in the 145.022 and kept the same register markings. The second hand would NEVER mathmatically align with 4 hash marks in between the minute indexes. And Omega kept it that way for DECADES haha

Awesome photos! really like how the faux lume + metallic grey (very subtle blue tint) dial color scheme feels. I wonder if it starts to feel more blue in certain lighting like direct sunlight?

Guarantee this will look completely different under varying light sources. Cant wait to see the juxtaposition in natural/flourescent/incandescent/LED/direct sun...

MUST RESIST

So.... my wife walked into my office space and saw what I was looking at, and her reaction was NOT helpful.

She thinks it's absolutely gorgeous.
She’ll wish you had one when the snow flies!

I might get skeward for this but it should have had white (no green) lume not yellowed lume...

Here on OF, this watch is a homerun. Obviously since this is OF, we're going to like this release a lot more. Over on TRF, the general consensus is "looks nice but fauxtina ruins it" to "I hate it because of fauxtina"/
I'm also not a fan of the faux patina, but just about everything else on this watch hits just right for me.

While I don’t totally agree, I think that it definitely should have had a lighter shade of lume, closer to the NEW321 ‘Cernan.’ I don’t think I’ve seen many examples of the soleil dial with that pumpkin orange radium. That said, I understand it is a ck2998 throwback first and not a tribute to soleil Speedmasters.

Yeah I'm with you on that. And I know that's the reason they changed it on the new 3861 release. I just find the more register markings more esthetically pleasing. Funnily the special edition speedmasters always had the two register marks between the minute markers.

On release day? That's wishful thinking on your part.

Thanks, I will try to get it today (if still on the shop) 🙁
Looks great. The small seconds hand is tough to see in your pictures, but assuming that was simply the shop lighting?
It was the lighting condition indeed.. honestly I was so excited when I was wearing it that I didn't event notice until I saw the pic afterwards.

Just found one here in Spain, do you think guys asking for a minimum would be accepted? I paid full price for the white one earlier this year and now drives me nuts..

Thanks

Buenos días compañero.
With "wishful thinking" they were talking about discounts, not availability.

I just ordered one at my AD.

Did anybody notice the omega symbol etched on the crystal above the hands point, excellent attention to detail by omega

I'd strongly suggest viewing the watch in person. I thought the same, but on seeing it, the actual amount of lume (by volume if you like) compared to the rest of the watch is quite small and I think it fits really well colour wise with the blue/grey dial. I say this comparing it to something like my NTTD Seamaster which has comparatively more lume for the size of watch and therefore it has a much bigger visual impact.

YVMV of course. I won't go for the new FOIS but largely as I have the 321 and a Sedna FOIS already, so it wouldn't add anything for me to my collection. If I didn't have the 321 though, this would be very high up my "want" list - I personally much prefer the smaller dial without crown guards and the flat link bracelet compared to the std moonwatch

Besides Boutiques, already available at ADs?
That's good news. I'll wait for discounts once the hype's over.

Anyone know if the buckle on the leather strap has the old style logo?

According to my AD it may take a few months for stock to appear

A nice daily for one who loves the look of vintage 2998 with soleil dial. Not a fan of that caseback so I think a customized display back would rock this.

The new FOIS looks great, love the dial, though still ambivalent about the fauxtina.

The 2012 FOIS wasn't all that readable at some angles, which is why I passed on it eventually. Wondering how the 2024 FOIS readability will be - anyone has seen in it the metal?
