Here on OF, this watch is a homerun. Obviously since this is OF, we're going to like this release a lot more. Over on TRF, the general consensus is "looks nice but fauxtina ruins it" to "I hate it because of fauxtina"/
"Fauxtina" is just an obnoxious term, very suitable for the drones on TRF. So if it had contemporary lume this bunch would like it, yeah, not buying that.

On release day? That's wishful thinking on your part.
Well, it is on the boutique ... not wishful thinking my Forbes . Found the white one three days after launch too..

What a great release. I’ll expect to wait a while for the call for this one.

I'm sure if it wasn't fauxtina, it would be "needs a hesalite". If it wasn't needs a hesalite, it would be "alpha seconds hand" or "hands not legible". It'll always be something.

Man, hard to pass this up. I'm sold on this one, putting my name down for one.

I almost regret the hesalite. I think a 2 speedy collection can be hesalite and white dial, or white dial and this.

Hesalite and this just feels a tiny bit same-y when there are so many other choices

To add to this, there's a thread on this forum that documents how lume being off-white isn't necessarily 'faux patina.' A number of these vintage sports watches came with off-white colored lume from the factory due to the composition of the luminous material being different in the past. Assuming that every watch came with stark white lume is an extrapolation from people who have only seen Luminova used on new timepieces.

Another winner from Omega. They've been hitting it out of the park with this release plus the white Speedmaster.

Question - diameter says 39.7mm. Is it really smaller than the Pro at 42mm? I always thought that 2mm difference was from the crown guards but the actual size of the dial/bezel was the same.

I already have the white dial and a hesalite, so I'm passing on this one. I want a Snoopy...

My understanding is that because the crown guards are integrated into The Professional case, they're counted as part of the diameter. When you remove those Crown guards the true measurement is 39.7 mm.

I'm as certain as I can be that the dial and hands are the same size as the professional, Ed White, and prior FOIS.

Edit: just used some calipers to measure my Speedmaster 1863 at the edges of the bezel and got 39.71mm.

Snoopy's are readily available, just pay what the market says they are worth. Don't worry, be happy.

Where the re-release 321 was a 'no' for me as the real (read: vintage) thing was more attractive in comparison and sits in a similar price range, this new release does strike me as a good one. Finding an original 2998 in nice condition is very hard, making this a better alternative. The grey/blue hue of the dial is the icing on the cake for me...

The pricing is interesting too; a bit below the 'premium' sapphire Moonwatch. What's your take on this? Is Omega backing up its Speedmaster range with a more 'attractively priced' offer in the wake of a slowing market?

(They surely have got me tempted, but hey, I know I have a weak spot for Speedies)

Just found one here in Spain, do you think guys asking for a minimum would be accepted? I paid full price for the white one earlier this year and now drives me nuts..

Thanks

Looks great. The small seconds hand is tough to see in your pictures, but assuming that was simply the shop lighting?

I don’t want it badly enough to pay over retail though. If the boutique gets me one retail is fine . May not happen but she says it’s possible.

That's one reason why I would've preferred a white seconds hand. But I don't want to beat a dead horse here. It is like it is and it's stil a beautiful watch. Going to visit my boutique tomorrow to have a look. Don't think I'll buy it yet as it's too similar to my Ed White and I'm currently eyeing another watch. But who are we kidding it will probably end up in my collection at one point.

I actually think that pricing is genius. It keeps the current Speedmaster professional as the flagship of omega's catalog exactly as it is. Regardless of how rational it is retail price has a huge impact on how people view things in terms of value.

love this watch. I was contemplating on buying a vintage Speedmaster, but this new release has changed my mind.

I'm not a huge speedmaster guy, and they won't be my next omega purchases, but I could definitely see having this and the white dial as my chronos
