Just in. Hamilton FAPD Type1 Navigator. Only produced for one month Sept.1970 during the Vietnam war to the US Air Force. One of the largest US issued wristwatches. The case is 36mm sane as the RAF issued Hamilton 6B. Uses the 684-hacking movement only used in the FAPD. There was a RAAF version rarer than the US one made also in 1970. Don't see these for sale often anymore. Saw it for sale and jumped on it. Being made for just one month not a lot out there my guess.

For comparison the RAF 6B.

Been trying to find more info on this watch. Like what does FAPD stand for and the short production only one month contacted the NAWCC they have nothing on Hamilton after they left the USA when in the USA, they had good records in Europe not so much. A big blank in their history due to moving to Europe and not keeping records of their history shame on Hamilton. Here is my thought on one production of Sept. 1970.
From 1969 to 1972, all new Hamilton watches were produced in Switzerland by Hamilton's Buren subsidiary. In 1971, the Buren brand was returned to Swiss ownership. By 1972, the Buren-Hamilton partnership was dissolved, and the factory liquidated, due to decreased interest and sales of the Hamilton-Buren product. Due to quartz and digital watches.
They were going through problems in 1970. If anyone has anything to add please do.
Wonder if Buren would have info? Since they were the ones who possibly made this. There probably out of business.

Very cool pickup! I really like these old Hamiltons. There is something very cool about an actual military issued field watch. The Hamilton Khaki Field automatic was my first “Swiss” mechanical purchase and was my daily for years. I think one day I need to add one of these old ones to the collection.
