Its funny that many people do not understand that this watch was made as a Satire. People actually got butt hurt and gave their own critique of the watch. They actually went to hate on Moser's Swiss Alps watch.

I think people do. It doesnt change the fact that 'its so ugly not even its mother could love it' 馃槜

It is, and that was intentional.

H.Mosier's brilliant piss take and the new Ressence Type e-crown concept were refreshing reads in today's watch blogs馃榾

The "Swiss Icons" watch breakdown (source Monochrome):
  • Case: Hublot
  • Screws: Hublot
  • Crown protection: Panerai
  • Crown with Cabochon: Cartier
  • Bezel shape: Audemars Piguet Royal Oak
  • Bezel insert: Rolex GMT Pepsi
  • Dial pattern: Patek Philippe Nautilus
  • Dial inscription: IWC
  • Dial numerals: Panerai
  • Tourbillon bridge: Girard Perregaux Three Gold Bridges
  • Hands: Breguet
  • Bracelet: Girard Perregaux Laureato

Omega, JLC, Breitling left out of the mix...though it would pretty tough to fit in a Speedmaster, Reverso and Navitimer into one watch!

I wonder what other mongrels were concocted before settling on this 馃榾

Perhaps some sort of court injunction or temporary restraining order?

I literally laughed out loud when looking at that picture. Truly hideous, and completely hilarious.

I hope so in a way - that would be playing right in HMC's narrative...and proving they hit the nail on the head.

Indeed, the best move for the "swiss icon" brands would be to move on and offer no comment. Soon enough the next news cycle item would take over...probably time for a new Omega Speedy LE馃榿

Just saw it!

For the price of one watch you buy a:
PEPSI
ROYAL OAK
NAUTILUS

Sounds a good deal!

Wish I'd saved an image of the most gosh awful ugly watch I've seen yet. it was being hawked as an Elgin, but I have my doubts. The case looked like it was made from layers of poorly cast and even more poorly painted plastic held together with big honking phillips head screws. It had ELG in big letters on it, probably where they got the idea it was an Elgin product.

I vaguely remember seeing one like it back in the late 90's, some sort of kid's watch. I could build a better one out of legos.

H. Moser just pulled the watch. They claim legal action was not the motivation. Hodinkee apparently broke the new first.

https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/h-moser-retracts-the-swiss-icons-watch

They said "no legal action has been filed against H. Moser" but you can bet it was threatened...

Sad that some brands who can't take the heat stopped this, as it would not only benefit the industry as a whole (it may still) but the sale would have certainly benefitted training of new watchmakers.
