Hahaha yes a ton of unsolicited asks to buy ... Even was fully stated they aren't for sale
I stopped posting pics of my watches there in the what are you wearing threads as I would get random Pm’s offering to buy...it was nuts.

Lol in both ways ... Amazing piece but holy hell it's been loved

Yes!! that’s why it sooo great. btw spidering on the dial is not uncommon for early glossy dials across references but it adds to the charm of your watch as showing the life it has led

You should also start a new thread with the Rolexes in the Rolex sun-forum here- we all love pics of finds like this- including all the boxes and stuff- we can live vicariously through you.

Very creamy plots on the rolex’s, the speedy isn’t too bad either. Don’t think I’ve ever seen a 16610, so creamy before. They fit you like a glove.

Its a 16800 so that may play into it but I think the years of sitting in a desk certainly helped w patina!

The SpeedMaster documents (Still no box on this one so would it be considered "papers only"?):

Papers are a great addition. Glad you found them. "Papers", and not "Papers Only" -- it is still more than most people have.

Well ... It's been awhile since I made this posting. The Uncle is still doing well so that's a good thing. As for the watches, we haven't started on anything with the Rolex models we found but the Speedy is done. In talking everything over we felt this one we wanted to spiffy up a bit while trying to keep it fairly close to current condition. With that said, we rolled the dice and headed to our local boutique. I told them I really wanted to keep as much original as possible and they had some major concerns after looking at the pushers that the internals, including the back of the dial, would have corrosion and would be replaced. The bracelet was another concern. We took our chances ... with the claim this would take 8-9m. Well, 3m later it's back.

And the story continues ...

First up, they did a minor restore on the case/bracelet ... I'm quite happy to see sharp edges and it looking good. I think by not having any prior service it saved us there.

The crystal was replaced as standard, as were the pushers and some internals. They also corrected the bezel alignment without replacing.

As for the dial .. it stayed! They did replace hands but gave all parts back so it's not like I can't have them put back on.

Since the bracelet has enough clasp adjustment I'm not worrying about replacing that.

But ... they noted that while there was a case number, it did not have a serial. Odd, especially with the paperwork we had. Maybe back then he got from a gray market dealer w papers and they removed the serial? In either case, Omega verified it as gen, documented this, and performed the service!

A little reminder:

I don't recall all the details of this original thread and please forgive me for not re-reading it, but I am assuming we ultimately learned that this is not a -71. The purchase is in 1981 and I don't see a step on the dial. Is it a -78 perhaps?

I can't find the site I used to try and determine this ... It was almost interactive. Like pick the dial style, case back, etc and as you picked options it narrowed down the model number

Well, perhaps you chose the wrong option somewhere since dial variants are fairly subtle for a beginner, but it does not appear to have the correct dial for a -71, and the purchase date makes it very unlikely. The reference number would be inside the caseback, and I would bet that it doesn't say 145.022-71. Probably just 145.022, but possibly 145.022-78 that sat in the retail store for a couple of years. I had originally assumed that you had read the reference from the case-back.

Also, the serial number would be on the movement not the case. I'm quite skeptical that it doesn't have a serial number.
