GSOTM Chipped

That is the first thing I considered when I saw this post, but I would expect the chip to pop off the side of the lug rather than the underside...but it's possible. Omega has sent out warnings to watchmakers not to use a case knife and pry against the lug, as I have said previously...

Is that how sapphire case backs are removed? Never knew it was just a press fit

You mean ceramic case backs? In this case, yes, it's a press fitted case back. The new fugly ceramic PO's have some sort of new locking system - my guess is some sort of bayonet style attachment, but I have yet to see any real technical information on it - so far just normal marketing material...

Fossil has over 10 year warranties on their products (product dependent...we've seen some 11-13 years).
Shinola (& Filson) are lifetime warranties. I've use the Shinola warranty and they are as good as their word. Almost (I hate mailing stuff) Painless. ;-)

This is an interesting since all of these companies are the same ownership. I had some issues with Shinola but they ended up resolving them eventually. Great coffee at the Midtown Detroit location though! Haha.

So are you saying you are certain this is the design being used on the PO's? If so, how did you confirm that?

I'm definitely not certain as it is not my specialty, but the "Naiad locking system" as the marketing people called it is most likely based on that Omega patent. It was linked in an Hodinkee article, so they probably got the info along with the rest Omega supplied them. If it's not exactly what's in the patent, then it is probably very, very close.

I guess I'm slightly OCD because I always disliked seeing misaligned logos/text on back cases, so it is one of those things that will make the world a better place 😁

Well reading that Hodinkee article, they searched for patents and found that listing, so they are making an assumption rather than having information provided directly by Omega. Quote from the article - underline added by me:

"A quick look through the various patent databases turned up what looks like the relevant patent"

I guess my question is, if they can produce threads in ceramic cases and case backs as this patent would assume they can, why would they use a snap on case back for the "Sides of the Moon" since that comes with obvious issues, like chipped cases if removed incorrectly? Not saying it isn't that system, but if it is Omega made some very odd design decisions...something doesn't add up, at least to me.

I'll wait until I have solid information from the source before I say what it is for certain.

Cheers, Al

We'll see if they continue the same warranties as they pursue automatic watches. Except for a few new Fossils, these are all quartz.
If the automatic watch warranties are identical and handled identically to my superb experience with Shinola, they will send an earthquake through the industry. Which is probably what Fossil and the Kartsotis holding company (Bedrock Manufacturing) want. 🤪😎

Trung Nguyen Premium Blend is by far the best. Shames everyone else on the planet. George W. had to go to Vietnam and tell them to knock it off and would they please export something else because the VN were putting Central American countries out of the coffee business. Now we have better shoes and clothes than what China is selling us. 👍😎

Last update. Just got my watch back, new case, same serial number. no more chip. I didn't get to keep the old case, but I did get to keep the crown.

Reading the paperwork, fixed under warranty, no signs of shock. Glad I didn't buy this one through the grey market.

Sorry for not posting pictures, but we all know how a GSOTM looks like without a chip.

Really glad to hear it all turned out okay in the end. I think you had most of us xSOTM owners on the edges of our proverbial seats following this process. Cheers and enjoy the watch...again!

Probably more of a cost vs benefit calculus since omega is getting deeper into ceramics and most likely do not want any "noise" at this stage in a forum.

Sometimes the market powers play into the hands of the consumer...👍

sorry to hear, I hope they treat you well and offer a courtesy replacement considering the location of the chip.

bloody hell, probably not even caused by a knock or strong impact? That's it for me, my fear of ceramic brittleness is confirmed. I'll stick to good old steel.

IMHO, sometimes one must accept, on one sale, to lose money.
This is about customer's satisfaction first.

Congrats and as said above Omega didn't need the noise of ceramic issues.

Glad it worked out. As the owner of two xSOTM ceramic watches I'd hate to see case damage!
