As always, you are so gracious to offer your services.
Honestly who wouldn't mind paying postage for such a terrible watch😉...Black dial and all...terrible terrible thing this, I say😁

Sounds like people are not in favor of black dial? I saw quite a few Omega with black/deep blue dial being auctioned and hot chased at eBay.

I enjoyed that story. I enjoy the stories associated with such watches as much if not more than the watches themselves. I would keep the dial as it is. That's how your grandfather and later your grandmother wore it for a long time.

They are indeeed rare and hotly contested. I was just using inverted logic...

The watch reference is 2471 and your case is all steel. So if you Google 'Omega 2471' you will see many examples. There were many dial variations for this reference.

Unfortunately, as with your watch, many of the examples shown will be redials due to water ingress and the ravages of time, but if you learn to identify an original dial from amongst those shown you will see how they were when first produced.

Here are my 2471's, two in the most commonly seen iteration of all steel and one in the less often seen two tone, which has a golden bezel.

Great reply! Thanks kindly for that. You know, I’ve seen examples similar/identical to the ones in your collection and I think I’d like to somehow get Grandpa’s 2471 redialed with the one you’re showing in the top left. Do you know if it’s original or not? Naturally I’ve googled Omega 2471 and I really can’t determine what’s the true original and what is likely redials.

To be honest budget isn’t a huge concern for me so if I can find someone who does individual one-offs I’ll most likely go for it. On that note if anyone knows a place that does tailor made dials I’d appreciate a reference.

For sure mine are original. You may find recommendations for redialing in your region but it is unlikely you'll end up with something that is really up to the mark.

The devil is in the details: the raised markers, letter types, colours used, type set spacing, date ring layout, the list goes and on and on. I don't think I've ever seen a redialed TDMP that comes close to original.
