Omega cosmic purchase

Hi everyone,

Looking at purchasing this Omega cosmic. Wanted a vintage dress watch and liked the idea of a triple calendar with a moonphase.

New to vintage watch purchasing and was hoping to get some input on people’s thoughts regarding authenticity history etc. I think the hands may have been replaced but the dial looks original. I really like the look of it but was hoping to get some opinions/feedback.

Thank you in advance

These 37mm Cosmic's are great and wear really well on the wrist, with a slimline height profile and very contemporary sizing.

Your example here is the gold filled version which came in pink gold and I believe yellow gold versions with the pink gold unexpectedly being the more commonly seen.

Yours looks to be the pink gold version ( certainly based on the hand colour ) but 1950's pink gold is very tricky to photograph with true colour and generally comes out in pictures more yellow than in real life.

The dial is original and pretty attractive, a shame about the tool marks in the centre. The hands are correct in being leaf shaped and I'd say original but they do appear dull in their finish....I can't explain this.

The case looks pretty good and as far as I've been able to tell these jumbo's didn't have razor sharp lugs to start with.

I've just Googled yours and see it priced at $6295 and marked as On Hold. Personally I find the price too high, but that's subjective of course.

Thanks Cristos! Beautiful watch. Do you think the hands are original on this one? My understanding was the hands often match the case and the hands on this one are gold while the case is steel.

Hands as a general rule are matched to the dial furniture and not necessarily to the case

There's a steel 2486 coming up for auction in a few days in France. The condition is OK and IMHO wouldn't be a bad buy around low estimate....

I don’t go to European watch resale websites unless someone such as yourself references one. This is almost entirely due to my unfamiliarity with European websites, as well as having to use google translate results (except for the UK of course).

Am I missing out on a lot of opportunities for vintage watches do you think?

Well I guess it's like any market in that it takes a hell of a lot of looking to find good watches worth buying that don't break the bank.
