Hello, Can anyone help me out with this? I am fairly new to this vintage watch thing, and I really don't know what I have in this watch. The seller assures me that it is genuine. I have googled hinged wire lugged trench watches and seen a number of watches which are not too far off from this, size, lugs and all. I've punched in the serial numbers and verified at least the movement's age (it matches the case number). But my enquiries th us far, including being bounced off of Facebook's marketplace when trying to sell it and a good deal of speculation that it is in actuality a converted pocket watch, have caused me a good deal of angst. Help??????
Yours looks better than mine does. I know at least one of my wire lugs have been reattached but I have the same questions. Mine also has a left sided crown....
An old ad I found here last year from 1906 shows a gent wearing his on the inside of the right wrist. I’m not sure how helpful this is to you though, sorry but this is all the info I have.
A lot of trench watches are conversions from pocket watches or ladies size pendant watches. It was a common practice when these were becoming fashionable and certainly isn't any reason to be bothered. Many were conversions done by jewelers when new. However, while the upper lug attachment point looks a like a repair, that lower lug is so cleanly attached and the bezel is so tall that that may be an original wrist watch case. Either way, nice watch. I do agree with @OmegaMark that those hands don't look right though, it might be nice to track down a period set like on @MtnMarine 's. The crown doesn't look quite right either.
