After a few years here---including as a participant in the sales forums---I've learned a thing or two, and thought it was time to share some wisdom with newcomers. Sort of a PSA. In particular, it occurred to me that it might help folks to have an honest glossary of common terms and phrases seen in FS (that's "for sale") ads. I've come up with a few---curious what other folks might add, if you're so inclined.

NOS/New Old Stock: This is just a preowned watch that's in really good condition, but saying it like that isn't sexy.

Not serviced while in my possession: The Omega Forums is a haven for addicts---do you actually think I keep watches long enough to service them?

36mm if you include the crown: This is a 34mm watch--don't kid yourself. But if you think it's creative how I measure that...

Some minor scratches on the back of the lugs: The neighbors called the cops and the cat hid from me for three days after that last strap-change.

Selling to fund another purchase: I already spent this money---please, for the love of god, someone buy this.

...what else?

No returns unless grossly misrepresented: What you think I’m lying? How dare you.

NR: Not running.
Untested: Not running.
Overwound: Not running and the seller does not know much about watches.
Timepiece: Pompous term to make a cheap watch sound more upscale.

Running ok, but YMMV: Gaining or losing massive amounts of time.

"** This is a genuine dial, but it is in such good condition that I think it is a very high quality reprinted product."

Beautiful Patina: The dial is damaged and I'm trying to make that sound like a good thing.
Heavy Patina: The dial is FUBAR.
Crème Brûlée Dial: The dial looks like shit.

Highly Desirable Rare Dial in Pristine Condition: The watch is way out of my league and I wouldn’t know if it was rare, pristine, or highly desirable among collectors.

Serviced By My Watch Maker: The little gears spin as determined by some dude down the street with a door and a shingle and has an oddly sized screwdriver or two.

One careful owner…….only one of the previous 332 owners was careful.
Probably needs a new battery…….the quartz movement is buggered.
Good running condition………not the watch, me, I’ll be off and running with your money!
Great investment potential……….I’m hoping to make a quick buck flipping this!

Genuine……..genuine imitation!
Rare…….not very well done at all!
Collector’s item………if you don’t buy I’ll put it out for the garbage collectors!
Limited edition……….the limit was set at the point that they couldn’t sell anymore, so they stopped making them!

Only 300 Made: Ignore the other 600 for sale right now. Besides, you'll be saying only 300 Made as soon as you buy it.
