Just being fussy, but "PLAQUÉ OR L" is short for "PLAQUÉ OR LAMINE," which means "gold-plated laminate."
Sigh, I should learn to look things up before I shoot my mouth off late at night.

Plaqué L is "gold filled" and plaqué G is "electroplated".
