I have really tried to stay away from this and all other Tokyo-related threads but since there are some factual errors lurking in some of the posts I guess I have to speak up.
I received my Panda in August 2019 and posted what I hoped would be a light-hearted review in December 2019. The motivation being twofold: firstly this is a very attractive configuration to my eyes and I wanted to share that with the community, secondly I was surprised that it had marked my wrist so prominently, so quickly and in similar fashion to the first point wanted to share that experience also with the folks here; recalling that
@Meme-Dweller had expressed sufficient dissatisfaction with the “imprinting effect” that he ultimately sold his Tokyo Speedmaster. So I was curious to know if we were just an unlucky minority or if this was something more common.
Despite the severity of appearance of that first image I don’t recall that blood was ever drawn, just heavy imprinting and redness of the skin. Thinking back, the photo was probably taken after I had picked the watch up from the boutique, with the bracelet resized, all stickers removed and worn for a few hours (in August) with a long sleeve shirt and jacket over it. I guess those last points are relevant because I traveled home by public S-Bahn train and wanted to keep the thing out of sight.
So all factors considered, the original clasp was still on the bracelet, which itself was tight and the whole ensemble was lurking under a tight-fitting shirt in a hot train for an hour or so, not to mention the possibility that there could have been some residual gunk on the caseback from the protective sticker that had been removed in the boutique. All in all optimal conditions for a bit of branding.
Since that event I have swapped the clasp and given the whole thing a thorough wash, several times, as I was also of the opinion that it must have been some fluke dermatological reaction to something or other.
Later on last year
@STANDY reposted that rather amusing first image and then all the disbelief posts started. So, trying to make light of the whole idiotic situation I did a timed, photographed test of the effect, over the course of a typical day and posted the results. Since the OmegaForums search function seems to be out of fashion here is the photo sequence, from mid-2020, again:
No blood, no dermatological reaction just a nice 3D temporary tattoo. Irritating? A bit, but not as much as all the “fake news killin me future value” posts.
There you have it; a one (or maybe three) in how ever many thousand of these of these bloody things Omega produced effect.
I’m off to look for the missing Bruno....I might be gone some time.
