... the green bezel has the brightest long-long term future. If only they hadn't given it all that damn rose gold furnishing... 😲

I know it's subjective but I think the green bezel version is the least attractive of the 5. IMO it would have looked much better if they had left the crown and pushers stainless steel.

I say this light-heartedly, but I think that watch ventures away from the subjective and close to the Platonic ideal of NO

But, I admit to owning and rather liking this, so who the f* am I to judge:

To add my experience:
I like to wear my watches rather tight. The Rising Sun left some marks on my wrist but it didn't hurt in any way. I have to say though that after switching to the Forstner flatlink the marks are barely visible now.

I have really tried to stay away from this and all other Tokyo-related threads but since there are some factual errors lurking in some of the posts I guess I have to speak up.

I received my Panda in August 2019 and posted what I hoped would be a light-hearted review in December 2019. The motivation being twofold: firstly this is a very attractive configuration to my eyes and I wanted to share that with the community, secondly I was surprised that it had marked my wrist so prominently, so quickly and in similar fashion to the first point wanted to share that experience also with the folks here; recalling that @Meme-Dweller had expressed sufficient dissatisfaction with the “imprinting effect” that he ultimately sold his Tokyo Speedmaster. So I was curious to know if we were just an unlucky minority or if this was something more common.

Despite the severity of appearance of that first image I don’t recall that blood was ever drawn, just heavy imprinting and redness of the skin. Thinking back, the photo was probably taken after I had picked the watch up from the boutique, with the bracelet resized, all stickers removed and worn for a few hours (in August) with a long sleeve shirt and jacket over it. I guess those last points are relevant because I traveled home by public S-Bahn train and wanted to keep the thing out of sight.

So all factors considered, the original clasp was still on the bracelet, which itself was tight and the whole ensemble was lurking under a tight-fitting shirt in a hot train for an hour or so, not to mention the possibility that there could have been some residual gunk on the caseback from the protective sticker that had been removed in the boutique. All in all optimal conditions for a bit of branding.

Since that event I have swapped the clasp and given the whole thing a thorough wash, several times, as I was also of the opinion that it must have been some fluke dermatological reaction to something or other.

Later on last year @STANDY reposted that rather amusing first image and then all the disbelief posts started. So, trying to make light of the whole idiotic situation I did a timed, photographed test of the effect, over the course of a typical day and posted the results. Since the OmegaForums search function seems to be out of fashion here is the photo sequence, from mid-2020, again:

No blood, no dermatological reaction just a nice 3D temporary tattoo. Irritating? A bit, but not as much as all the “fake news killin me future value” posts.

There you have it; a one (or maybe three) in how ever many thousand of these of these bloody things Omega produced effect.

I’m off to look for the missing Bruno....I might be gone some time.

I nominate this thread as the thread least likely to be contentious and apparently became contentious.

I am allowed to nominate this as I am normally in the middle of the contention, in this case I fall to see why this is being debated.

🍿

Hopefully the "why don't you like speedmasters" people won't find this thread. It'll just stir them up more.

This is still quite gentlemanly. There hasn't been a single 😡 or a :whipped:, not even a 🤬.

At best maybe a 😝 or a 🤨.

It makes for good 📖, even if 🙁 for some posters.

In the end, I'm sure we'll all still be 👍.

Cheers.

given a choice, all other features being equal, i'll pick two - green for the unusual bezel, and red tokyo for its matching red bezel and "speedmaster" text. there are so many pandas already.😁🥰

Was just about to strap one to a leg of pork for a week.

Suppose I can let the wild pig I caught last week go now........

As Doug Marcaida would say. "It will mark"

Maybe the colorway can spark an emotional connection with Norwich City supporters, or Green Bay Packers fans? Having lived in Madison for a couple years, I've actually grown fond of Green + Yellow as a color combination after seeing Packers flags, car stickers, towels, clothing, just about everywhere I went in fall and winter while living in Wisconsin. Then again, use of Yellow Gold over Sedna would better match those team colors.

I had a Croatian neighbor once who was a watch collector, and he absolutely had to have a Tin Tin Speedmaster. Not because of the hype (this was back in 2015, when they were easily available), but because that red-white checker pattern on the Tin Tin dial reminded him of the Croatian sahovnica.

Personally, one of the things I really like about my 116613 LB Bluesy is because it has the same colors as the University of California, and the San Diego Chargers... both of which were big parts of my life, growing up. People will find ways to make personal connections with colorways, and I applaud Omega for their bravery in trying new things.

Part of what makes the new Oyster Perpetual range so fun and sought after, is that it offers a diverse range colors. In theory: something available for everyone. Yet in practice: no watches available for anyone (to buy at an AD 👎)

I fully agree that the Green + Sedna offering will be least popular out of 5 Tokyo Olympics colorways. But for those who do seek one out, I bet it's all the more special to them, because of how hard it is to find this particular colorway on any Omega, much less an icon like the Speedmaster.

That data’s only relevant to Aussie naugahyde you call skin. For us Texans, a day on a week-old golden pear should do

Dammit...I hope the Rising Sun doesn't shoot up in value before I have a chance to buy one. If I was really dumb, I'd buy one today. If I was really wise, I'd buy one in July. All based on my financial situation, of course. But I saw one on Chrono24 from Japan that went for $6500 from an AD, and a $7000 lightly used one here in the states. With my luck, by the time I am ready to pull the trigger, the $9500 on WUS will start looking cheap. 😁

This is a really stupid thread...😉 I was happy with my white and blue panda Tokyo Speedmasters but all the talk and the nice pics of the rising sun have made me order one from Jewellix... Now searching for a red leather band to complement it.

I had a love/hate relationship with my FOIS as well. i really like the look of the watch, but that caseback annoyed the hell out of me.

When i first bought the watch i realised the edge on the caseback was pretty sharp. So not only it left an imprint on my skin, it actually left some microscratches too. I brought it back to the AD after a few days, where the sales person also admitted that the caseback was unusually sharp and made the watchmaker smoothen the baseback (free of charge) for me.

After the edge was a bit softer, the watch surely didnt irritate the skin as much. nevertheless the profile of the caseback was enough to leave an imprint. My stap was not too tight, you can even see multiple rings from the watch moving on my hand.
It is possible that i have a sensitive skin. But i dont think i have any allergies (i even got tested in 2019).

It actually saddens me so much that a piece i really enjoyed wearing so much, allways felt uncomfortable.
To such an extent that i sold it last week.. i do miss it, but who knows what the future will bring, maybe one day the new EdWhite will lose in value, like half the price 😗 then i will get it 😁
Edit: couldnt cope with loss, so bought my FOIS back from the buyer 🤦 😁

I have both the FOIS and a Tokyo 2020 (Red), I wear both quite snuggly, not super tight but smug so that they don't move or slide even a few millimetres - a watch not being centred on my wrist is annoying to me and brings out my OCD so hence I wear them all snug to the wrist, some may call that tight - but neither of them leave any impressions or marks or any irritations on my skin - both simply feel the same as my other watches with flat case backs.

I always thought it looked like a London Bobbies helmut. Or warnings on a runway.

Hard to take a liking to it after that.

a clear or see-through glass caseback may be a good option as replacement and keep the steel caseback in a safe.😁

Now that it seems the postponed 2020 games will not take place in 2021 due to Covid - I think it is time that the specialities release was renamed......The Covid-19 Edition....? or perhaps with 5 different variants, then name each variant by one of the CV-19 Vaccines...so one could be the Pfizer 2020, another the Zeneca 2020, the Oxford 2020 etc...

Just a bit of fun - but back to reality, I have one and have no intention of selling it - it is an absolutely gorgeously decorated timepiece that attracts more comments than any of my other watches...and for me it's notoriety only increases with the cancellation of the games...

The games haven't actually been canceled, atleast according to Japan's Prime Minister.
