·Hi there,
Emboldened by the successful sale of my first watch here I'd like to offer another one up for sale. This one came to me through my wife's family and I must confess I do not know much about it, or pocket watches in general for that matter. Along with the box, (from a jewellers in Düsseldorf which may or may not be original to the piece but certainly of that time period ) was a signed hand written appraisal in German which I will do my best to translate.
Gold hand wind pocket watch (open face) from around 1920
Case: 14k gold NR 207980, dust cover also 14k marked with the G=Geneva Swiss gold stamp for 585/100 (14k) from the period 1893-1934. Hinges are metal. German gold import stamp says "Vulcain"
Dial: Gold Guilloche dial with subsecond dial, steel "Pear" hands.
Movement: Swiss movement with some replacement "Regenbier" screws and a Breguet Spiral. All is intakt and working but needs cleaning and screw work. Recommend the hinges either need gold plated or replaced with gold ones.
There we have it. Not much more to add. There is a V marked on the movement apart from that I only see advance and retour markings elsewhere. Case and dust cover are both marked Vulcain.
The watch is seemingly in great condition with the case and dial showing very few signs of use. Looking inside it is clear that the piece needs a good clean but the movement is running strong and keeping good time. The gold dial with its guilloche engraving looks very classy. There's no doubt that this is a very nice collectors piece from one of the oldest houses of Swiss Watchmaking. I'm finding it difficult to part with and to price, but those medical bills aren't going away!! Ideally 1700 Euros to me. For buyers inside the European Union (apart from Switzerland ) I'll include free shipping and insurance. Thanks for looking.
