Back in Blighty for a little R&R
So to redress the balance of far too many BMW and Porche references on the forum - took this little puppy out for a spin today
So if Speedies = German engineering
Then an exquisite Connie deserves something with a little more grace.....
( and for the record - at 100 miles an hour on country lanes it was like a train on tracks - and truly mental!)
Enjoy

I worked for Alfa Romeo for 13 (lucky for some) years. They were tough times - 'difficult' products, many quality issues and lessening respect for the wonderful history and legacy of the Marque. It's very nice now to see a refreshed image building and I'm hopeful that the new Giulia will finally re-establish Alfa Romeo's good name. Meanwhile a 4C visits my locality occasionally and I love it - this new red is great, (and as a traditionalist I used only to 'approve' of Alfa Red).

Not 100% convinced that British country lanes are the ideal place to drive at 100 mph....😲 😲 😲

I have owned Alfas since soon after I learnt to drive and oddly have never owned a German car but I do love Speedies too 👍

My three first cars were Alfas and my fourth and current is a MB C124 - I don't think you can get much further apart in build ethos and driving feel. Love them all 😀

My first was a 1991 16V Alfa 33 QV, like the one below (haven't got a photo of my own...). That car would take me from depressed to manically ecstatic faster than you can say "completely rusted-through inner wheel arches" and from content with life in general to furiously mad in the time it takes to say "the central locking has malfunctioned - again". It really was a beast and I was too young to care. What a mad, mad car.

My second was a 1983 one or two-owner Alfa Alfetta 2.0. In fantastic shape without a single spot of rust and a bulletproof engine. A shame it was a tad underwhelming performancewise as it was a fuel-efficient (ha!) version with a gearbox with high ratios, a bit like the BMW 525e.

Sadly, at some point a couple of hooligans thought it would be a great idea to throw a chair at the front screen 🤦
Do you have any idea how difficult it is to source a front screen for a 2,0 Alfetta? Hint - it's unique to that specific model...

Currently, I have an Alfasud that's awaiting restoration. I'm the second owner.

Alfasud is a lovely classic and great engines in the 33 16v and Alfetta 👍

I'm still driving my V6 156 - 16 years old now. Its not my everyday car but still love the sound of the V6 and havent had the heart to move it on.

Lovin' the love for Alfas
I hope no-one took serious offence at the Speedy = German engineering comparison
As an Alfa devotee I've had them for a couple of decades too
Starting with a 33 gold clover leaf that I encouraged my father to buy the first year they came out in the UK (around 81 from memory) which he subsequently passed on to me
I've had a string of Sportswagons and GTs since then - all brand new and all with problems - but I still kept buying them
I'm happy to be butt of the 'style over substance' jokes my BMW driving mates level at me
( one of them offered me a set of jump leads for my test drive yesterday...)
They're about to bring out a new hot Giulia that will give the M5 a run for its money
(Until the electrics fail of course....😉)

My favorite of the few vintage cars that I have owned, a Milano Verde (75 in Europe). Great suspension, handling, and V6 (no sweeter sounding engine). Recaros were standard, as well.

Meh. I'd rather be apart from the crowd rather than a part of it...

Love the GT as well. My first drive in a really nice car was in one of those, with our next door neighbour's gorgeous 30-ish daughter in the passenger seat 👍

Even though it was "only" a 2-litre, my heart was pounding 😁

I wonder if he'd have been so keen to put his own feet next to yours.... In the dock... Had it all gone wrong at the expense of someone coming the other way?

Ok - Whilst it was great fun I agree it was a bit silly
For your piece of mind there was good visibility along the route (no big hedges blocking the view)

And I can confirm that there were no squirrels (or humans) hurt in the making of this info-mercial

Learned to drive in that one (fyi: my father's):

Still recall the wooden steering wheel.

Very cool car... never recall a problem with it.

I had a '60 giulietta sprint for several years, alternately wonderful and frustrating but definitely the most beautiful shape.

I love Alfa's, and am so glad they've made a come back in the US.

The pert rear of the 1750 Spider Veloce...

All I need is a matching numbers 1968 transitional Speedy ;-)
