Fratello Friday – Rectangular Watches

Every Friday I write an article for the website of USA’s best read watch magazine, WatchTime. Yesterday’s article is about my personal Top 5 of rectangular watches. Rectangular watches do not seem to be my style. In all the years of watch collecting, I’ve only had a few in my modest collection of watches and most of the time sold them quickly again. I also was able to borrow a few pieces, such as the Jaeger-LeCoultre Grande Reverso 1931 you can see above (and which we reviewed here) but perhaps too short to start a long lasting relationship with it. […]

No link 🙁
I keep wanting to try a rectangular watch, but apart from the jlc reversos nothing has appealed to me, so I am definitely interested in reading the article.

Baume & Mercier have been producing nicely designed square and rectangular watches for a while (as well as some not so nice ones). They might be worth a look too.

Since its revival in the 90's, the Reverso is pretty much the king though.

I have quite a few rectangular watches, but most seem to be at least 70 years old! 😉

And yea, I know how you feel, its almost as if there's like the Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso... and then all the square watches that aren't a JLC Reverso...

They make rectangular modern watches other than the Reverso? 😕

My views on Cartier are fairly widely known at this point so they're certainly out 😜

Tiffany's has a nice line called the Mark series. Do they curry the same favor as Cartier? 😁

Is that the platinum model?

Gorgeous watch, but I have to ask you where you found that strap, it just oozes quality.

Yes, Dennis, platinum Rutledge. Alex, it's a Peccary (wild boar) strap made in Canada. Not quite vintage, but pretty close in style to the original gray calf strap sold with this model. I found it on the 'bay a few years ago, NOS, can't remember where.

Hmm, he would look rather nice on my wrist. I wonder if any strap makers offer a free range option, like with lobster restaurants where you pick the one you want to eat.

I'd like an armadillo strap on my new tank.

Both wishes can easily be fulfilled with a visit to Texas.
Plus we can stop off at the Salt Lick in Austin for some barbeque and beer 🍺

I'm with you Tony. I love rectangular watches (as you may guess from my Avatar). Here's my Omega 625 purchased from a member's Ebay shop.

Nice try Tony, but this thread has reawakened the albino koala (prized for its ear fur).
