Found a Speedmaster professional in a drawer after almost 50 years.

I opened it with a screw driver, hammer and My fingers. I thought about that after I did it and probably not the smartest thing I could have done. I am the one that put the two scratches on the caseback.
..I sometimes have nightmares I wake up from, always related to a caseback, screw driver and a hammer.

I also opened it with the movement still going. One of the most beautiful things I have seen in a while.
If you mean that you will truly live to regret selling this watch. I have a similar story with my Speedmaster and on researching it my eyes were opened to the awesome mechanical beauty of timepieces. I say get it serviced, the recommended local place on Peachtree can do it, and have yourself a great watch and a link to your old man. Trust me, as a son who has lost his father, these objects take on a near shamanistic power.

Here's a picture of mine:

Beautiful timepiece. I'm doing a bunch of research on this and the more I find out about it the more I like having it. It's so rich with history.

Look, I'm going to say this as nicely as a stranger on the internet can say it - forget about the extract, forget about servicing it...just be with the watch for a month or so. If it doesn't grow on you in that month, then it buys you four weeks to soak up everything you can in terms of the best way to sell the watch (btw - if you have truly no idea what it's worth, just put it on eBay with a no reserve auction).

Your father only has / had so many watches. Don't get rid of it to make a quick buck.

Why do people block the movement number on pictures of their Movements?
Some crazy fear of someone somehow using it to prove prior ownership; I think, I've never quite figured out how that would work...

Here are some additional photos I'm still on the search for the original band. Wish they were real moonrocks.

I also found out that the crown is original to this watch...........

Good thing it's original otherwise you'd need something else than a hammer and screwdriver to swap it......maybe a pair of pliers? 😗

Just joking...it's a great Speedy although I'm not too crazy about the strap!

😲😲😲 please clean that watch up 🤮😗

Judging by the 'successful' opening attempt, I wouldn't clean it just yet (will be done when it goes for a service)...
I also wouldn't use it to tell the time (i.e. wind it) for a month (only after a service)...ChicagoFrog's advice of being with the watch implied just that...being with it...but what he didnt mean was use it...(that was great advice by the way)...

Nice watch 👍👍👍

What a find! Your dad must be quite a character to put that turquoise watch band on there! I’ll bet he has some stories to tell!

Granted, I’m a complete stranger from cyber space, but my advice to you is to get that watch cleaned and serviced! Wear it until you’re 60 and then give it to your son or grandson! It could end up fetching you a nice little bundle in the near future, but money comes and goes. Your dad won’t be with you forever, but this belonging of his can! It’s a timeless watch and I know I would regret it to the end of my days if I were in your shoes and let it go.

Good luck with everything! Congrats on the dream find!

I'm not by any means saying this is a NASA issued watch because it's not. How did NASA mark their watche issued to Astonaunts? Its interesting knowing that this style watch went to the moon.

What an amazing find. Service it but please don’t polish it.
