I’ve used Swiss Watch Expo in Atlanta ( on Peachtree) for servicing a Seamaster and a Constellation. Did a nice job. Didn’t wholesale replace parts like Omega does. One year warranty on all work.
If I would of found this after he passed away I would of had no Idea the significance of it. I'm just surprised he waited this long to tell me about it. I know the OXG next to the 321 movement stamp means it was imported to the United States I'm not sure if the extract will say the city it originally went to? If it went to chicago and he bought it from a jewlery store on the gold coast he might be the original owner which would make it much more significant to me.
So, get the Extract, and sell as-is, unserviced. I think that is the way to go if you are planning to sell to a collector here. Which is the best place to sell, imho. Nice watch, btw. Or, keep it and have it serviced by someone who knows what they are doing and will do the minimum with regards to replacing original parts, which is where the value likely sits. Then wear it a lot. Either way, congrats.
Any Idea on the modle number watchband that would have come on this? I'm in the process of finding the correct one but my father has a few watchbands and im not sure which one would go to this watch.
I've spent about 20 hours doing research on this style watch in the past 2 or three days. I'm Hungry for more.
So you found it in a draw, how did you open the watch. Was it you that put those scratches in th case back trying to open it.
I opened it with a screw driver, hammer and My fingers. I thought about that after I did it and probably not the smartest thing I could have done. I am the one that put the two scratches on the caseback.
I also opened it with the movement still going. One of the most beautiful things I have seen in a while.
Put the Dremel down and stand away from that caseback On a more serious note, I rather think your enthusiasm may exceed your horological skill. Anything else you need done should be handled by a professional.
If I ever get the second line of text under my profile name, I want it to be this : ‘I opened it with a screw driver, hammer and my fingers.‘ Quote of the week IMHO!
Hahaha. I agree. It's both terrible and greatly endearing at the same time. Terrible because of the damage done to the watch. But equally endearing because it's been so long since I've interacted with a completely new collector to this crazy hobby. OP, keep at it. Learn from your mistakes and I'm sure years from now you'll look back on these memories with fondness.
