Forgetting to wear a watch

I feel naked without mine, even if I’ve taken it off to wash the dishes. It’s an institution and you don’t mess with it.

+1 on this, washed the car yesterday so took the watch off, then felt naked as soon as I had finished and had to put the watch back on before I cleared away. Its a bizarre feeling.

I never forget, but I did accidentally leave the house while wearing my Apple Watch!!!
One thing I find funny is my brother in law (who was gifted a Breitling Super Ocean upon graduation) constantly has the wrong time.
He will not wear it during the weekend and when Monday rolls around it is dead and he still just puts it on...but forgets to set it.
I think I have busted him as late in the week as Wednesday...

constantly has the wrong time.

Sooooo here's what I would do in your position, I'd get in cahoots with my sister and have her wind the crown on Monday morning to charge the mainspring AND also set the watch an hour late, and also change the time on his phone and other clocks in the house. Let there be chaos and hilarity! 😁

My wife never bothers to set the time on any mechanical watch she wears. When someone comments on that she simply says "so?".
Come to think of it she pretty much says that same thing about everything.

Your brother in law tho...Wednesday? Seriously? 😁

Hah I mean it is usually Monday mornings after we get to the office.
My wife has some variety of vintage Concord that she got from her great grandmother and she has the right time but she can't read it since it is pretty small.
Square dial and no numerals lol.

It can't happen to me. I wear it in bed and only take it off to shower and for actual hockey games...I don't even take it off for light practices. I'd feel naked without a watch on my wrist. If I'm doing anything that would be more dangerous to a Speedy, I'll still put on a Seiko "beater."

While I have not carried a handkerchief in 20 year, everyday when I walk out the door I say to myself "wallet, keys, handkerchief, watch." I feel naked if I am out of the house without a watch.

This always reminds me of Andy Warhol wearing a Cartier Tank with the wrong time.

I think he said something along the lines of "I don't wear it to tell the time, I wear it because it is the watch to wear!"

...the way to Sign the Cross was 'spectacles-testicles-watch-wallet'.

I prefer 'watch-wallet-spectacles-testicles' just to show how religious I am.

Oh, and I've added thirty minutes to my normal twenty-five minute commute because I realized the bare wrist at a particularly poor place in the commute (within a mile of home but with no decent place to turn around).

But being a good WIS, this hasn't happened an a few years.

The worst thing about forgetting your watch is the unsightly light patch where the sun hasn’t reached the skin on your wrist for yonks (this is obviously more of an issue where I live than London, etc. 😉)

My problem is I wear a massive Garmin GPS watch for playing gold so my tan line is nowhere near my normal watch. 😡

I can't go to the shop down stairs without a watch on, but pretty much as soon as I get through the door I take it off. I practically never wear a watch in the house.
In the same manner I always change into house clothes when I get home. My wife thinks its weird. She never changes what she is wearing that day.

I take mine off to shower and sleep and I'm very aware when it's not on. I have it by my bedside table at night I put it on before I get out of bed. Weird habit but I'm okay with it.
^ exactly that

I wore watches back when I was 10 years old. At 15 or so I got hit by a drunk driver and went head first through his windshield. It took my nose off my face and I went through a lot of skin grafts and reconstruction. Anyway the doctor asked me if I slept with a watch on I said yes he instructed me to stop as I could inadvertently do damage to all the work they were doing if while sleeping I ran the watch across my face.

not bringing this up for pity or any other reason to explain while to this day, all these years later I just don’t feel right sleeping with a watch on. It’s odd how little things like that stay ingrained in you.

93.3278 of time I remove my watch before I sleep. If I could overcome this weird idiosyncratic tic or whatever it is this would remove the very few times I do forget a watch but I fear it might take a year of therapy and a couple grand which would be better spent towards a watch I might forgot to wear one day in a year or two.

I have a watch on 24/7. I stash an extra one at work in my locker.

Visited my mom today and look what I found in an old drawer in my old room-

I’m tempted to look for a replacement case, put in a fresh battery and give it to my son as his first watch when he’s a bit older (1.9 years old, a little too early for a watch).

I've been feeling this struggle recently. Had a bit of a family emergency and have had to sell my 1 month old Aqua Terra. It was my first proper watch purchase. When I bought the Omega, my two younger brothers took my Orient Ray II and my Seiko 5 respectively. I assumed I'd wear the AT forever (or until the next watch a few years down the line). I've been without a watch on my wrist for a week now and it is bugging me so much. Especially as all my hard work (being disciplined and saving for a year) just went out the window! I'm thinking of buying an Orient diver off eBay or something just to put something on my wrist. Feels empty!

The orient bambino and seiko 5's are probably the most cost effective ways to get back in the game.

The other weird thing is I can only wear the same watch for about 2 or 3 days in a row.

If I go on a 5-day vacation, I'll pack 2 extra watches.
Never expensive ones, just something to mix it up a bit over the 5 days.

Not sure what that sickness is, but I have it.

I’m not sure what is worse, leaving for work without a watch on or without a belt?
